Mikel Arteta: Top Of The Klopps

Can’t remember having such mixed emotions after a game tbh. All I can say is we were handicapped by the managers choices until it went 2-0. Why the **** are we going to try and contain West Ham, and how is having Auba on the right supposed to help? ****ing wotless tbh. Makes zero sense. Proven beyond doubt how dumb it was because when switched at 2-0, West Ham sank without trace. Then he took Saka off when it should have been the abject Auba...

If he doesn’t alter his outlook and pick teams according, he’s not the man for us. Will he learn from this? He HAS to learn from this. L

Arteta's choices for the backline were clearly related to set-piece defending. Gabriel is decent in the air, as seen by his goal against Olympiakos, but it seems to be Mari's strong point, along with long-range passing (i.e. for the counter attack).

He's been rotating CB's since City. He knows EL is our only shot I think.

Poor selection and player positioning today. If he tells the team to be compact and keep their shape, they seem to go scared and reactionary.
He says- he's disappointed in the first half. He says,we have two faces one of which is "giving goals to the opponent". He accepts West Ham's first goal can happen but the other two are unacceptable along with the Antonio chance. He can't explain why we switch off. Re: Auba, he says it made sense to start him on the right but we couldn't get the ball. Says Chambers was really good, gives height, was efficient in the final third and has been training well. He's not happy again and at this stage you wonder if the players are just bored.

Mari and Chambers both coming into the defence really threw us off at the start, even though Chambers overall had a great game.

Along with Auba starting on the right there was just too much new stuff for the team to start the game properly.

Think Arteta is similar to Pep in the respect that he can at times over think things and make them more complicated than they need to be.

Saka on the right. Auba on the left. Sometimes the simplest and most obvious choices are the correct ones. You don't need to reinvent the wheel.

Something is up with the way the team is prepped and sent out onto the pitch in general. We had a slow start at Leicester, and a number of other games also.

Needs to rest Saka properly. Such a shame that for some reason we need an international break during a bloody pandemic.

We need Bukayo on all cilinders if we're to take anything from the EL.

Poor selection is one of the ways a manager can affect the performance. Arteta made changes today that either didn’t make sense or required that the players adjust on the fly. The result: we looked confused for 30 minutes. 0-3.

The player adjusted eventually and so we went 3-3.

At this stage in the season we should see more consistency. The players, other than Auba, are performing well.

Looking for receipts 👀
Maybe Gabriel is in the "red zone", maybe being careful after his Covid and he has played a lot recently.
Hes a centre back. Not a winger or full back. Harry Maguire is playing every game, a young 22 year old cant manage 2 games in 3 days? Id be worried if that was the case.

That second half of football was great though, you see teams like City do that from the first minute, maybe we really will get there but whether the first half was the players or him I am not sure.

Consistency again is my issue.
