You could argue that this is the case. His first 4 months we played 4-2-3-1 with our 4 best attackers all starting, very attack FBs then after the first lockdown he took out Özil for a more defensive midfielder and later brought in an extra defender and he was pragmatic for a long while after that. We've slowly seen an improvement in our attacking play and getting more adventurous but first and foremost we're a defence minded team.

Ps why do I get forced moniker? For the record I very much believe in stats, just not expected goals. I guess I am just untrained, I don’t watch games and worry that there wasn’t enough foreplay before the orgasm of a goal. Apparently, Arteta is rated not only on goals scored, but the amount of foreplay before and on whether or not he cuddled and held us afterwards.

He’s now showing hints of being able to do both, I haven’t denied that, but he should have been showing these hints in the last season and a half yet he struggled quite badly. He’s now spent 250M and naturally the team has improved, but has Mikel actually improved? The signs so far, are no but the guy isn’t going nowhere so all a man can do is hope.

P.s. Before I get attacked I know Arteta has made good signings, but if that’s all he’s good for he can join Edu and the scouts.

Funny thing that most here said the signings were not good. Also they are very young, so personally if we start to see more of these kind of results, Mikel has done a great job imo.

Because I'm sure no one expected White to be Varane for example, but a good player with great potential. Same with the other signings.

Ole, Lampard are recent examples of coaches who do quite well in the prem then get embarrassed in Europe.
