Mikel Arteta: Top Of The Klopps

He is simply an ego maniac. All of the data and research about Slavia beforehand showed that they play a high line and they lack quality to play from the back. So the correct thing to do would be to play a high press and with lots of pace in behind.

It's not even hindsight. Everyone knew what the line up should have been before the game. Yet he decided to play Willian and Lacazette where immobile and then ESR who has just come back from injury.

Having watched Saka get in behind and have nobody to square it to because Willian and Lacazette simply couldn't keep up with him why didn't he change it? Klopp took 40 minutes to make a change when he realised he got it wrong vs Madrid. That's Madrid ffs. Arteta is too proud and literally waited as long as he could for both Laca and Willian to contribute something. That trait is terrible in a manager. It means he cares about himself more than the team.

Martinelli---------Auba--------Pepe

------------------------ESR

------------Xhaka--------Partey

Saka-----Gabriel-Holding-Cedric

-----------------------Leno

That should be the line up for the next game.

Martinelli and Saka know how to play together on the left.

Xhaka can drop into the left back space to build up and Cedric has linked with Pepe the best out of our 10 right backs.

Press them high, play fast football and we will rip them about. That team would end the tie in the first 30 mins.

However, if he goes there with a conservative attitude, being scared to press or play from the back then there is literally no point in getting to the final.
Saka was MOM. There is no way he plays LB given we need to score goals.

Pepe will start on the left.

Depends. E.g. in Germany there's most times no taxation on salary bonuses - which basically equals his clauses I guess.

Ohh that explains it then. I imagine everyone in Germany doesn't do this because it would result in a change in the tax laws.

Lots of "top" managers, bankers, etc. in Germany are earning in a similar way to Kroos. They'll maybe have basic yearly wages around 80.000 to 120.000 € - which already makes them top or at least very good earners, but not millionaires - but will then get a few million in bonuses. Tax free on top of that. Always maintained if you want more money from the rich you either start taxing these bonuses or their personal capital while actually lowering income taxes for everyone. Couldn't care less about 60% taxes on a 90.000€ income - have a flat tax around 30 to 40% for everyone e.g. -, but I want at least 25% of that 5 or 10 million bonus the Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Bahn, Commerzbank, Mercedes, etc bosses get.

Mods are unethical! Özil, come assist me please!
Mikel when talks about players "our way of playing" - wtf is that btw?

Our way of playing is **** - no ball dominance, very Moyes style - Everton days.
Do the honorable thing and quit please. Leave on mutual terms.

Use the fullbacks to put in cross for the main lone striker who is not good in the air

That's very interesting, the media paints Germany as a very progressive, socialist nation. This, with bankers and CEOs paying very minimal tax doesn't sound too far off the same USA that gets bashed (rightly) from pillar to post for bowing to corporations and rich millionaires.

lol. We're not even close to socialist. Scandinavian countries are far more deserving of that description. We were once (60s,70s,80s) known for Soziale Marktwirtschaft - "Social market economics". Basically operating in a capitalistic market in a capitalist way but having a domestic socail policy that's very social or socialist. Hence our once lauded insurance, healthcare, social welfare, etc. systems. But we've left that behind to follow more neoliberal practices, we've re-introduced privatisation of those sectors and thus we've killed off the "social" in Marktwirtschaft. Our tax system burdens and kills off the middle class while we're far less social regarding lower classes and are afraid to take stuff back from the upper class. Germany is definitely ultra capitalistic and much closer to the US than rather leftist countries like the Scandinavian ones.

On not getting into Europe for next season, Arteta said... 'It is true there are some really good examples of teams that were rebuilding their teams and it helped them in their project, but I would rather be in Europe.'

...elite answer from my boy here, tbf...says he always wants to be in Europe, but gives himself an out in that it could also be a good thing to miss out...he knows how to play the media game without a doubt!

Only surprise here, was that Mikel had to say this himself and there weren't a few Athletic articles explaining this to us mere mortals

League is very weak
Standards are very low. Whatever happens this season doesn’t matter really, Arteta will be given into next season. Then next season making the Europa League places will be seen as progression.

So it’s a long road we’re on now. I supported the new young approach but it’s been a tough ride with mainly horrible horrible football and my energy levels are low now.

League is very weak
Worst season ever with the worst football ever, with the worst results ever, we’re barely winning back to back games.

Then I’m watching Luiz, Cedric and Willian ffs. Why am I watching Arsenal built around old Chelsea men. It’s totally deflated me now.

Ffs sake, the man isn't even properly rebuilding. Rebuild to me means something like when Stuttgart went down after 18/19, sold 20 players, got 21 new ones, new manager, new DoF, new everything with a clear concept at hand.

Arsenal is just adding here and there, have Emery, have Arteta. This Arsenal team wasn't a squad getting relegated needing a complete overhaul, this was a team that finished 5th, won an FA Cup after Arteta took over and was in position to attack Top 4. Reinvigorating would be much more fitting than rebuild.

Jump ship now. If you are struggling with Arteta now it’s gonna get way worse

One thing I am confident with is we won't bring in the wrong players. The money we've spent has gone on Gabriel and Partey, two excellent signings. We won't settle for Wenger esque signings on big money now. Arteta and Edu might be a lot of things but they know what level of player it takes to take this club forward.

To your point on younger players over half of those are playing for us regularly already. I wouldn't be putting Azeez in the side just yet and Guendouzi just doesn't deserve to be here at all, stinks out the place wherever he is.

If you look at the players we've been linked with (Bissouma, Hakimi, Ödegaard permanently) these are exciting, quality players. Not Pepe signings on stupid money.

If you get rid of Arteta you have to get rid of Edu, so this has to be a wise decision from the top, and we know for a fact no matter what Arteta will be given the summer and next season, or at least part of it. Saying that I'd want to see some sort of change if we finish below 8th and get knocked out of the Europa league early on. That can be a managerial change/DOF change OR if the club are truly backing Arteta then they need to prove it and give him 150-200M to get the squad the way he wants.

I am sure we can bring in more quality and get rid of more baggage. My concern is that Arteta is just not good enough as a coach or manager to lead us.

Do you think Arteta can manage the level of talent that we will need? From the outside, it seems he doesn’t know how to motivate and instead relies on strict structure and discipline. The team is not excited to play football which translates to a mechanical, reserved, tightly wound, mistake prone Arsenal, which is simply not the Arsenal anyone want to see. Bottom line, I am personally not enjoying Arteta’s brand. Maybe he has grand plans that just have not been communicated well.

It’s a pain to replace the manager, but surely it must be given consideration at the end of the season.

Baffling really. Few years ago 5th was a disappointment and the club just needed a bit of fresh ideas infused to get back to challenge for the PL title, now as this has all backfired we're sold this stupid rebuild & progress stuff as if the club had lost 20 players and got relegated, the downfall into midtable was inevetible and every fan should be lucky Arsenal qualify for that horrendous Europa League and if needed we have to wait a decade for that to happen because while other clubs got more professional Arsenal ****ed up - or in certain other words: We're just not able to see the genius of Arteta and his people which if we just wait for long enough will win us a treble of CLs. Just wait and trust the process. **** me.

Think he's just trying to buy some time until something goes right for him, though what he is saying will definitely annoy the fanbase

Random question on Stuttgart...remember when you got Lehmann on a free in 2008, was he still good?

Always thought we were a bit too quick to dump him for Almunia, even though he started 07/08 badly, still felt he should have been kept as the starter.

Jens was decent enough, better than what we had at the time. And better than when Arsenal reactivated him even later
He is a bit of a muppet and a madman, but I guess if he's "just" your teammate he can have a very positive effect. Just don't ever talk to him about anything else but footie.

Remember you supported the new young approach not only with the manager but the players also, and what makes this unpalatable is patience while he plays favourites with some older players at expense of development and opportunities for younger players. This is what really hurts the case with Arteta continuing now because it wouldn’t have mattered that much he was going to continue another 6-12 months as long as quite a few youth prospects at the club were not being held back due to questionable team selections. I know we have no power over owners/board, but if he doesn’t get EL/CL football for next season it is tough to defend him staying on through the summer.

Loved Jens...on his interview on Arsenal.com, he was asked who was his "best friend" in the team...he said it was Bergkamp, I think because he used to make fun of Dennis for being Dutch and Dennis used to make fun of him for being German

Jens is a serious nutter. Guess if you get on with him you can learn a lot from him in terms of football, but unfortunately lately he's been in the limelight with some seriously idiotic comments regarding football management (meaning the DoF part and such, he's on the board of Hertha Berlin by now) and denying Covid even exists. So yeah.
