Mikel Arteta: New Contract Signed

SuperMikel

A calm and collected individual.
This league is for the taking.
If ( and if is a big word ) if Arteta spent big and got Toney , dropped the bullshit of playing out from the back and went more direct then this team would be title winners by February.
Toney playing of Jesus , Saka on one side and Trossard on the other side . Rice and Partey pulling the strings in midfield.
Play Nelson , ESR when the game is won or even against bottom half teams .
Arteta has shown some balls with Raya and Ramsdale, so drop the playing out and go aggressive by feeding the wings
Merson , Smith , Wright , Limpar esq
It’s not boring football, it’s winning football, entertaining and trophy winning.

The more direct you are the less control you have.

Your also suggesting we whack it long to Toney rather than try to play out from the back?

This is parody right?

I’ll never understand why Arsenal fans get so cocky about Europe. We couldn’t even win the Europa and now the first CL campaign in 6 years talking like we’re gonna smash everyone in Europe.

So you’ll be content with getting knocked out to AC Milan, Inter, Benfica or Napoli in the last 16? Those were the sides that got to the quarters last year.

I don’t really blame people for being optimistic as besides City and Real Madrid, there aren’t any sides we should actually fear. Even Bayern and Barcelona look a shadow of the sides that we used to get drawn to under AW. From Robben, Ribery, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta etc to Raphinha and some young prospects in midfield.

Asking if I’m content with losing is a bit of a loaded question because of course I wouldn’t be.

What I’m saying is Arsenal have done f all in Europe especially the last decade so it’s just ridiculous to me fans can come here and talk down the rest of Europe apart from two teams. Madrid and City weren’t in the Europe league last year.

Firstly, nobody is saying we’d beat City or Real Madrid but anything could happen since it’s a cup competition. Anything after the quarters is where you can ride your luck imo. Sp**s beat City in the Semi Final in 18/19 and that City side was arguably stronger than this current one.

Also it’s not like teams haven’t been in the Europa the previous season and gone on to do damage in the following season. Fluke or not, Chelsea were in the Europa League in 19/20 then went on to win the CL in 20/21 knocking out Real Madrid in the Semis and City in the final. Did anyone expect that?

I get you’re looking at what how we’ve performed in Europe previously but it’s a cup competition. Anything can happen.

So you don’t want Ødegaard to start?

Madrid have the best individual midfielders in Europe, if we can get in the game against Bellingham/Valverde/Tchouameni then we could beat them but its the one fixture where I think we'll be playing counter attack and suffocating their midfield if we want to win.
Depends on what you put into being a good individual midfielder. Bellingham is up there for sure. Valverde not so much for me, he’s not the best passer and sometimes makes quite dubious decisions. Tchouameni is a class dm with good passing that’s becoming better and better. They’re all absolute beasts physically.

But I wouldn’t rank them as the best midfield. At full strength both City (Silva, KDB, Rodri) and Barca (FDJ, Gavi, Gündogan) are better and arguably us as well.

Being such a force physically makes me think that they’re hard to counter against. The way you manage that tie is to try to dominate midfield and keep possession.

You been reading this forum for years and yet you're always confused and complaining. What is it do you want people to do now?

Yeah, his record in Europe is a bit of a yikers.

Felt the in game management was probably one of his worst so far as Arsenal manager.

Viera wide didn't work from the get go he needed to be moved to midfield. Took too long to bring Nelson/White/ESR on.

My biggest issue is that we came into to this thinking it would be a walk in the park and that the real worry was City.

That was made worse by the fact that we just looked far too rigid when we went behind.

He needs to be able to change it up when that happens instead of trying for plan A, only harder. Once they equalized, Lens had our number most of the match.

Sevilla is going to be a tougher game on paper, but I still think we'll qualify. Just making the making it early part that will be missing.

Turns up only when we lose
We're currently 3rd as it stands in the group, outcoached by Lens, late subs and woefully inept as per usual in Europe, 4 years into the project.

It's Premier league or UCL otherwise this project is a bust and legohead needs to be sacked.

PSV equalized, so we're back to second. Arteta luck!
