Mikel Arteta: The Real Deal

Should Arteta’s position as manager be under threat if we don’t win the PL or CL?

League is very weak
If he stays here we will win more things under him. Of that I am certain.
What’s this based on? He’s had a couple of good league seasons and got spanked in every cup competition he’s played.

Im not Arteta out, I give him one more season. A lot is questionable now.

Thoughts.

I've watched the first couple of minutes. Can't stomach the rest.

I take it he's a PSG fans. Supports a side where you can walk a bvm league every season and buy whoever you want. His experience is obviously different to ours as Arsenal fans.

Guy would probably be In tears if he had to compete with Man City and Liverpool every season rather than Brest and Strasbourg.

He's probably still bitter we absolutely schooled them earlier on in the season too.

He’s right tbf. The club lacks ambition as do some of our fans in this social media era. The January window was the perfect example.

Small W’s are being blown out of proportion and we get too giddy very quickly - I get that’s the whole point of being a fan however I think Turkish on AFTV mentioned the same thing about our fans lapping everything up before we’ve done anything of note (that’s part of the reason, I was glad when Newcastle fans gave them the same energy on Twitter, so they can pipe down for a bit). There are some things I disagree with him on but generally he makes a lot of good points with regards to our fanbase.

The above point is good.

But it adds to the point that I've been making the last couple of seasons. Beating your title rivals is overvalued tbh. That's not what wins you titles.

Sure you want to do it and it can add some nice momentum / prestige but you win the league by putting away the 15-16 teams you go in as favourites against, home and away. Which is something we don't do well enough currently.

Looks great until you rightly swap Tottenham for Newcastle in the big 6. Or just make it a super 7…

( fr though 2 years without a loss to City and Liverpool is fkn impressive)

I think our problem is we try too much to treat the other 13 teams in the league like the top6 these days. We need to go into a few of these games with zero respect for the opposition. We should be beating the rest of the league on talent alone, everything doesn't need to be as rigid and structured as in games vs top6.

Its great, but its still not enough.

Being frustrated by teams like Newcastle and Villa and those in the CL is what kills us right now. Until we deal with those teams properly, will we continue to not achieve our targets.

This summer is a big one for us, in that regard.

Yep we couldn’t score at home vs freaking Everton. That record is meaningless if you gonna give points away like this

Our manager.

You wanna know why our online fan base is so disliked this is a prime example. A whole lot of nothing

It’s like the later Wenger years all that possession yet lose the game.

Simple fact is when it comes to the crunch we don’t have it yet large portions of the fan base think we do.

We used to make fun of Tottenham for stuff like this now look at us now.

And I feel like for this you need a gunslinger up top. Someone who bags 20 a season in the PL. We don’t have a reliable enough goalscorer to spread goals over an entire season, to score goals consistently enough across the 38 games. There will be times we just naturally need a straightforward ball in the back of the net.

Only time it really matters if it's in like April or May. Otherwise it's just another 3 points.

I will say tho, I do think losing to your title rivals can have a real negative impact tho especially depending on the context of the league table at that point.

Apart from City in 2022, when has a side won the title without a lethal goalscorer? There's probably a couple of examples maybe. City have had Haaland and Aguero, Liverpool with Salah (Mane's numbers were also good), Chelsea had Costa, Leicester had Vardy, United had Van Persie, Rooney, etc.

You're seriously handicapping yourself without this. The two things you guys are talking about can be linked too. You need to build a habit of just going out and winning, beating all the sides you should be beating and this can be helped by having someone who doesn't need too many chances to score.

It's unbelievable that we've never signed a goalscorer under this current regime.

Arsenal Quotes

Arsène Wenger's idea is not only to play good football. It's to play good football to win. In my day, we knew that with our style we could hurt teams and win trophies too. But we did it our way, with the positional game, passing, movement.
