Mikel Arteta: Top Drawer

Should Arteta’s position as manager be under threat if we don’t win the PL or CL?

I’m starting to think we look more conservative than we really want to be because our forwards are EXTREMELY sloppy at holding the ball and getting us up the pitch plus fatigue of course.

There is some truth to this.

Another reason why a lot of people would like to see Ethan brought in sooner than with 5 minutes to go.

He can actually hold the ball further up the pitch and drive between the lines. More than one way to skin a cat, etc. etc.

Nwaneri is more secure on the ball than trossard. Even though he was t bad, many times trossard is the one who plays like an inexperienced youngster with his decision making

Trossard lacks athleticism and speed, he's not the strongest either. Think these are all traits we need more of, particularly athleticism and speed.

I do wonder if Jesus could play that SS role that Trossard is currently playing with Havertz. He's more athletic and has the strength to post up and duel with defenders a bit more. Unfortunately you lose Trossards predatory instincts if you take him out.

Problem is trossard is comfortably better footballer than Jesus. Tross are can make things happen which Jesus cant

Also because they’re **** at scoring goals.

Mikel knows we can’t blow teams away, even Saka our only attacker of the level required is more of an elite facilitator than a goal scorer.

I don’t think we can blow the top teams away, yet. But last season showed when we want to turn it on we can and anyone outside of City/Pool we can put many past.

I think we’ve had a similar start to last season with our style of play.

‘’Saka, Ødegaard, Saliba have always been the studs in this team. Martinelli used to held in that regard until end of last season.’’ - @Macho deleted post 14:01 October 28th.

I agree, Nelli’s fall off has been so disappointing and I think it’s a massive issue. We should have done better in the window to get and attacker.

When I suggested Mbuemo who’s 9 goals in 9 games I got laughed at, same as Raphinha.

There were players available who could add a lot more than Jesus, Sterling, Nelli.

Even Havertz man.

I don't even think he necessarily fell off, I think fans pegged him as a Suarez regen and have been forced to adjust their expectations. Unfortunately it's now gone in the opposite extreme.

Mbuemo or Raphinha would have been clever pick ups, I think I expressed my agreement when you mentioned them.

It’s because the fan base think all our players are WC based off us coming up with a reliable way to win PL games. A lot of them aren’t actually that good.

That’s why we’re seeing guys like Raphinha and Mbuemo who “arent good enough” proving to actually be better than our players

Martinelli will score v newcastle and we back to square one. This back and forth with martinelli remind me so much about Walcott

Goalscorers make things so much easier so it's kind of infuriating we've never actively pursued one. We're so close to something very special here

Why are we talking about our negativity when they scored the equaliser?

For the previous 5-8 minutes we'd regained control and were actually pushing for the 3rd.

Arguably Arteta was a little naive to go chasing the 3rd, pushing men forward particularly with such a makeshift backline. It did cost us really.

You could make a strong case that going into the last 10 minutes was the time to sit back, absorb pressure and look to hit them on the break.

Previous to that we were under the cosh for a spell but you're not going to dominate every minute of a game against Liverpool, they're going to have spells, they're a decent side

Walcott at least showed he could be capable of elite numbers.

People get so wrapped up in defending him game by game and he will finish the season with something like 15 G/A which will be celebrated. Ask those same people what player they went on that wing though and they’ll be asking for at least 20 G/A a season.

He’s not a bad player, he’s just not a top level one imo. I think Arsenal is the best he’ll ever have it in his career and he’ll eventually settle into a squaddie role here if the club does what it’s supposed to do.

I don’t think Walcott was better than Martinelli at all. Martinelli already surpassed his best scoring season. Walcott never had to work defensively like Gabby, he also played with better strikers which took defenders attention from him.

It comes to the argument of how much players hear from coaches on the sideline. I was listening to an interview with Eiður Smári Gudjohnsen earlier where he said 95% of the time players don't hear **** what managers are waffling about on the sideline. It's only at dead times that instructions can really be passed to players.

I think in the moment where they scored their second goal we were just really feeling it, Martinelli had so much space and we thought we smelled blood. I think with Gabriel experience on the field Salah would not have found that space on the counter.

Overall, there were some errors on our part but it's hard to fault the manager IMO. I already wrote it on makeshift defense. But even so, we were dealing okay with Liverpool pressure, and as you said we were having our moment and controlling the game when their second came.

The bald cretin that manages City said the same. He said the players don't really hear anything and all of the managers are doing it for themselves more than the players.

When I arrived, an Arsenal share was worth £800; it subsequently rose continuously in value and by the time I left it stood at £17,000.
