Our best chance is in Europe. Never in my memory since Arteta have we been a top 5 or 6 spender in transfers in Europe. In old days we were behind clubs in England, Spanish giants, Bayern, and three clubs in Italy as well. No bent English refs there. Plus Europe’s big clubs are in even bigger financial shambles than England. Financial playing field now tilted to England. Real, Barca, Bayern, Italy are shells of themselves in comparison to recent history. Real is still Real but they have been unconvincing by their lofty standards.
I think we have a great chance in the CL but it’s never that simple. I thought we were clear favorites in 03/04 with our invincible team through to the quarters and all the big teams being knocked out yet we somehow contrived to lose to a poor Chelsea side with Porto and Monaco making the final.
