Mikel Arteta: Top Drawer

Should Arteta’s position as manager be under threat if we don’t win the PL or CL?

I can understand upon reflection that his thought was that we're only at half-time of the tie and he didn't want it to get worse but it looks cowardly and persisting with Ødegaard is simply unforgivable.

The attack is not good enough and that's clear but he also has to have some culpability for who he is choosing to give the leadership role to and not being brave enough to grab the game at home. It doesn't look good.

If we turn it around in Paris then maybe he looks like a genius but if we don't, he looks bad, as injured as we may be and as talented as they may be.

Still created 2-3 big chances (yes I know PSG created more).

He deserves criticism for building our front line but he also deserves better attackers tbh.

It’s time to go if the attacking problems persist with better attackers but I struggle to look past players like Nelli, Kai and now Ødegaard. They just aren’t good enough.
He purchased most of the players, not a good excuse.

i don't understand why people are still defending arteta here saying he did nothing wrong. ofcourse he is lacking a bit of attacking quality atm. everybody can see that. ofcourse psg has more quality going forward.

but i think the real issue was that nobody could hold the ball up front. we could have done a lot better with merino. it was clear we were missing someone who could hold a ball up front and do some link up play. trossard is not that player. it was a lot of passing without being dangerous. sure we had some big chances. two of our biggest chances were created by mls and by rice. why didn't he try them both in midfield at some point? after that big trossard chance in the 56th minute we barely created anything. why not try something different the last 15 minutes at least if you are too afraid to try something else a bit earlier on?

why did he not try some different things in our last 2 league games? he already knew TP5 was going to be suspended. you had 2 weeks to try something else in training and prepare mls for a midfield role. why not try mls in midfield in those 2 league games? why not give tierney some real minutes at left back?

in my eyes he just never tried. this was him basically this match

Not going to say Artets did well this match but at some stage I think we hoped for keeping it 0-1 or maybe nick a goal and then try to take the game to them in Paris.

Still no excuse not subbing Ode off at HT. Even Neto could have done better there.

Hes got to be very ****ing careful because if we lose or draw to Bournemouth this weekend it's getting very very shaky.

Finish below 4th and get knocked out of the CL and I'm sorry but off you pop

We've seen this movie before.

No matter how much money you spend, you can't buy killer instinct.

A few of our players have it.

But it starts at the top.

Let's hope we don't have another repeat in France.

Can we just also add context to this one game? Without our best defender, without our best midfielder this season and without a striker. Fair enough. I can accept a one off loss under those circumstances.

What I cannot accept is simply dying since the turn of the year.

Brentford (A) W.
Brighton (A) D.
Newcastle (H) L. (cup semi)
United (H) L. (FA cup)
Sp**s (H) W.
Villa (H) D.
Zagreb (H) W.
Wolves (A) W.
Girona (A) W.

Newcastle (A) L. (Cup semi)
Leicester (A) W.
West ham (H) L.

Chelsea (H) W.
Fulham (H) W.
Everton (A) D.
Madrid (H) W.
Brentford (H) D.
Madrid (A) W.
Ipswich (A) W.
Palace (H) D.
PSG (H) L.

13 wins, 8 draws and 5 losses in all comps since the turn of the year. 26 games and only 13 wins. 5 wins in the CL means we've had just 8 wins domestically.

This all stems from the summer window, so if we do bomb out over the next 5 games we need one hell of a window to make up for this mess.

Woow even you are asking questions. Never thought I would see this

New Year, Same Hate For Reed
False 9 role wasn't working. Teta should have adjusted it in the first half itself.

Also, we missed Merino's presence up top and that dude just can't hack it in midfield. What's the point of having 2 LBs on the bench when you can't trust them.

He never tries anything different, it's always plan A till death. I get maybe trying MLS CM is a risk but we were crying out for something different in the game. Even Tierney on would've been a bit different. But it was White for Timber and Nwaneri with 5 mins to go. It's unbelievably frustrating, I get our options off the bench aren't great but you make use of what's there.

Everything has to fall in place for Mikel to be successful. There is no deviating from Plan A or else we'll fail.that is his management style and probably why we haven't won ****e.

Btw just for context if PSG advance it's taken multi billions worth of investment to get to this point to get to a CL final.

The only reason some are having a go at Mikel in his second ever run in the champions league is because we've failed in the league, both should be split up and viewed individually.

Realistically nobody should expect us to win the CL.

The summer outside Merino was a disaster that's for sure. Our lack of attacking quality has killed us

Guys let’s have some context here. We were missing both of our 9s, both DM’s and CB. That’s like 50% of the spine of our team.

I predicted before the game we’d struggle massively in midfield, and that proved the case.

The only point of contention I have with him is maybe he could have take Ode off earlier, but it’s only 1-0 in the tie and Ethan has been hot and cold recently. He’s also barely played centrally. To throw him on against the best midfield in Europe in a CL semi would have been bold to say the least.

It’s not a good result but it’s salvageable.

Arteta played like he did as there is still a half to go, I can remember how deflating the 0-2 against Newcastle was. It looked like a ****ing mountain to salvage anything at St. James Park, and it was.

Now it's only 0-1, nothing is lost. We were without Gabriel, Tomiyasu, Calafiori, Partey, Jorginho, Havertz and Jesus against the best team in the world probably. Partey returns, hopefully along with Giorgio Armani to give us a few options in Paris.

Yes but we've suffered from insane injury issues for 20 years now. I can't just let it slide yet again. Blame has to be apportioned. It's not just freaky **** year after year at this point.

Arsenal Quotes

I was receiving offers from many other clubs and declining them all, even the most tempting ones. Juventus, Real Madrid, PSG contacted me, Bayern, France, England...I am happy to have been able to say no to more glory, more money, and to have been guided only by the idea of loyally serving the club. I had knitted myself a soul in Red and White.
