Mikel Arteta: Top Drawer

Should Arteta’s position as manager be under threat if we don’t win the PL or CL?

after 3 2nd places finishes then this bar has to stay the same going forwards and it's a very high bar the club has never seen before.

you said "it's a very high bar the club has never seen before.",

are you new as arsenal fans or have poor standard ??
because the fact is wenger last 5 season at arsenal still better than arteta first 5.5 season because wenger won 3 fa cup trophy + get top 4 for 3 times BUT arteta only won 1 fa cup + get top 4 for 3 times with a lot spent money than wenger

also you said "very high bar the club" that is totally non sense because firstly, Sp**s finished 2nd in 16/17 + runner up ucl final in 18/19 with pochetino at Sp**s in 5 season less spent money than arteta in 5 season & secondly, leicester small club won PL in 15/16, so what arteta did finished 2nd for 3 season in row not even close very high bar for club like arsenal

Seems like a lot longer but likes of Leicester City, 10 years ago the scouting they did to sign likes of Mahrez, Kante to win the title fair play. Vardy was a menace that season, very good career.

You may agree or not but a season we missed a real chance to win PL, actually beat Leicester home and away!

Not having Gilles Grimandi on your books as your head French Scout does wonders for your prospects in picking up hidden gems from France.

not trying defending emery (i still believe we should NOT hire him) BUT lets breakdown,

emery finished 5th in 18/19 (first full season) and get sacked middle of season in 19/20 (half season) when arsenal number 8th at premier league table which is made him only get chance for 1.5 season at arsenal

now arteta finished 8th in 19/20 (half season) then finished 8th again in 20/21 (first full season), how many season for total arteta at arsenal ?? yes exactly same total number like emery 1.5 season but arteta did not get sacked even with the fact arteta made worst situation by finished 8th again in 20/21 , so arteta did not improve us in league position because the funny thing is emery get sacked after bring arsenal into number 8th
Emery got sacked partially because he lost the dressing room. Arteta still has his team solidly behind him you can see they give everything for him.

Giroud killed us that season. 10 years later we’ve made the same mistakes with Kai.

There hasn't been a point in Arsenal history where a manager would get sacked for finishing 2nd, 2nd, 2nd. It wouldn't have happened under Arsène or any other manager. Ever.

If the funds Arteta have been given fundamentally change that in some fans eyes then okay. But there's no reason to think that Arsenal will stop spending sizeable money under whoever comes next as long as we maintain CL football and the ownership stay invested, so he'll be under the same threat.

If there's talk about me having lower standards then just refer to my previous post. I called this season "Average" from Arteta.

I'm calling a season where we likely finish second and have reached the semi finals of the CL an AVERAGE performance from the manager.

We'd have killed for an "Average" season for most of the last 10-15 years so let's not lose a bit of perspective.

There are more areas of frustration with Arteta now than there was this time last season or the season before, I acknowledge that. Let's discuss them and find where he needs to improve that extra 5%, same with the players but it doesn't mean this project should be ripped up and burned to the ground at this time.

If Arteta doesn't improve his game next season then I don't think anything should be off the table in regards to sacking him.

Tough season. Many mistakes, not enough rotation but given the circumstances finishing second is incredible. Especially when you look at where others have finished.

Next season you have to deliver silverware and I think he will.

Arsène Wenger won 3/4 FA Cups and you lot still hated him Im not fooled by any of this.
Very different context. Let’s engage our brains and not make simplified statements.

If Arteta had some FA cups and league cup sprinkled in over the last few years he would have a lot more support. I know he would from me and I can speak for a few others too.

Don’t believe me? Make a poll lol.

Shows the intellectual level of the Arteta Outers that no one came up with the nickname PRteta

its like back in the day when Fabregas got called "Fibreglass" which is a really **** nickname tbh, Fabregash always made more sense as an insulting nickname.

Disappointing not to win the title when City faltered but we just have to take the 2nd and move on, not the end of the world. We should've really won a cup but it's not like we finished 5th and won **** all. We're doing alright.

Given the state of the rest of the league I don't see us being in any danger of dropping from this sort of position and I don't think we'll be as sloppy as this next season either. Whether that will be enough we'll wait and see.

Everyone was saying how terrible our attack is, how terrible Kiwior is, havertz etc... Saka out for 3 months and Ødegaard has been abysmal. So yes, to finish second given the circumstances is unreal.

Got to separate trophies from the league season

Funny enough, for most of the season this was Arteta I wanted to see. Brooding in two youngsters, managing injuries, led us to a good run in Europe, etc.

Yet still, something about watching the way we play is so off. Hopefully with new signings we'll be able to go up another level.

Arsenal Quotes

In 1997/98 we became English champions as I had set myself three missions to carry out which I felt were essential. One: to have an impact on the result and the team's playing style. Two: to foster the player's individual development. Three: to strengthen the structure of the club and enhance its global influence.
