Mikel Arteta: Winner 🤴

It is very clear now that Arteta will do good against the bigger clubs in the league. He will also do well against the clubs that finish lower in the league. But there is a certain type of manager, like Frank or Howe, that will have enough tactical ability and good enough players to stop Arteta. And this has been on going now for a couple of seasons because I don’t think teams had quite figured Arsenal out in 22/23.

It’s crazy that he doesn’t actually address this. Instead he’s running player after player into the ground and not really wanting a squad made up of attacking players that are versatile and offer options. He has done exactly this for his full backs and for 6 but completely ignores this in attack and a lot of fans on here have caught onto this which is why I don’t really see the sentiment on here as negative. It’s born out of frustration more than anything.

Our best 11 is:

Trossard - Gyokeres - Saka

Merino - Zubimendi - Ødegaard

Calafiori - Gabriel - Saliba - Timber

Raya

And games at home you throw in Zinchenko and let him and Zubimendi run the show.

In this system, yes; it’s our best XI. But many fans lack the objectivity to admit it.

Success for any big club is measured in trophies, not whether you improved with all the money spent or got more difficult to beat. So far Arteta has one, the same or less than all our competitors and the same as Sp**s, Newcastle and Crystal Palace. We also presently play the least attractive football in the entire division. This year, Arteta or you walk.

Our play is stagnant and predictable. The decline is clear and although its pre-season, there seems to be no attempt to diversify our tactics.

Mik's favourites will continue to have a free ride regardless of how ineffective they become.

I hope he makes the necessary tweaks to our system and play, but the signs suggest it aint happening.

Please Arteta, It’s time to move on from inverted LB... Rice and Zubimendi are super double pivot. We dont need an extra DM... Just return to 4-2-3-1

We do, however, need 4 new fullbacks to play 4-2-3-1

Thanks Mik.

Galaxy brain suggestion: when we sell Saliba we put Rice at CD and with Cala as his partner. They can underlap interchangeably as an extra outlet with Timber and a new LB covering on that flank.

What's wrong with Arsenal?

Arsenal: Is creating chances an issue for Gunners?

It is obvious that only Gyokeres is not enough.

What Arsenal lacks is creativity.

Tactically it’s been the same u-shape football for a few seasons now, sure we’ll be able to have a good performance in our locker here and there but the consistency over the course of a 38 game season still has many question marks before the season has even started. I remember Thomas Tuchel in the 2nd leg vs us broke down our tactics and pretty much said there’s not really anything new to learn from their last game, they’ll try to create an overload on the right with Saka, Ødegaard and Ben White etc - just to put it in context, that was 2 years ago.

Henry broke it down too. The whole foundations of our play is just too safe which ultimately comes down to the manager’s philosophy. When you have a willing runner like Gyokeres, he’ll just revert to type when players like Ødegaard are hesitating on the ball. Why make a run when nobody is willing to pick you out?

The way he sets us up you literally need prime Messi to consistently break teams down.

My new cope is that as long as Zubi plays then we move things quicker and centrally but even in this very copey scenario we have a new key man risk in Zubimendi.

I’m struggling to make sense of the different approaches between the first 2 games and the Sp**s one. I’m saying it’s because of Zubimendi but More likely scenario is Mikel tried being aggressive and then went na, too rich for my blood, and folded.

We need a baller that isn’t afraid to come central. Bring me Eze I beg 🙏

He’s not going to do that is he, MLS is the man at LB. The team has been built wrong imo. It’s so predictable the way we play with these CMs or CBs at fullback, and 2 DMs in midfield. Really depressing.

It really comes down to the consistency thing which I was mentioning and probably why the CL suits us a lot more than the PL. I know it’s pre season but tactically there are just some managers in the league who have figured out how to frustrate us and I feel like it’s a much tougher game when we always face them. Managers like Thomas Frank, Marco Silva, Unai Emery and co set up their team to sit back deep, regroup quickly when we hesitate or delay a pass and nullify our right hand side by overloading it with a bunch of players. Ngl it feels like we drop points at least once to the same teams and Arteta has yet to figure it out.

The stage I’m at is that if we sign someone who can do what we require to have fluid transitions in Ødegaard’s position and a LW capable of taking on his man 1 vs 1, sure there will be a improvement but I don’t think we’ll be maxing out our full potential unless there’s a change in his philosophy imo. The football itself is very safe and we’re more concerned of conceding or being caught on the break than scoring 3 or 4.
