I still struggle to believe how shockingly our substitutes played against PSG (other than Timber).

Martinelli, Goykeres, Madueke, Eze and Zubimendi all coming on against a tired and frustrated PSG who had to substitute their best players (and their other starters were exhausted) and failing to inflict any damage or even retain any meaningful possession to create chances is an unconscionable level of failure.

I don't think many of our fans (especially the ones who got giddy about Madueke passing an exhausted Mendes just once) understand the level of failure that we've witnessed.

Arteta's battleplan was on point. We kept PSG at arm's length and then used our stronger bench towards the end of the game. But I don't think he expected how badly our substitutes would play. This is where he needs to be ruthless. We can't rely on these same players if we want to succeed next time around.

The conditions in extra time was literally best case scenario. It was the most optimal condition for success. How we failed to take the game to them is completely beyond me.

The manager has to take action in the transfer market and cull the dead weight.

Eze & Gabriel should have been told by Arteta to just focus on keeping it on target and forget the goalkeeper. I wouldn't mind if their penalties are saved, that can happen. The PSG kicker who had his penalty saved (Mendes) at least worked our keeper. He kept it on target and our keeper saved it. That's how you take a penalty, even if it's saved.

But dragging it wide or skying it, isn't really acceptable at this level. Eze's penalty was shocking and Gabriel didn't even have John Terry's excuse of slipping, he just went and skied it.

I don't think it was too much to ask to just keep the damn thing on target.

In theory, yes...but the pressure during a penalty shootout is massive.

As long as a player doesn't attempt a paneka, I will always forgive them...they are human and can mess up sometimes at the end of the day.

I only want two things from him next season:

1. For the love of all that's good & holy, rotate your players.

2. Keep the squad balanced by signing as many attacking players as we have defensive ones.

mikel has a lot to learn and a long way to go. 5 full trophyless seasons and then a league win finally which he almost blew. 2 finals lost with his tactica called into question and getting knocked out by Southampton in the FA cup.

This was the poorest league in PL history don’t what @ArsenesCoatMaker is waffling on about. No top teams in the league outside Arsenal.

City, Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool all took the season off.

That said, Arteta is not far off legend status. Another league would solidify it.

To win the league after 23 years is no small thing. All credit goes to him, nobody can take anything away from his work.

I’ll say he’s a small legend for me, get another league and then he’s a pure legend.

I can’t give him anymore higher plaudits. My thoughts on the league are well known by all on here and separate from my views on Micky.
