Mikel Arteta: Working Jovertime

Should Arteta’s position as manager be under threat if we don’t win the PL or CL?

My abductor injury has now moved(the pain) to my lower abdomen and I can't turn and lay on the right side.

Sorry hydro, that wasn't funny my bad. Here are some to ease the pain:

Here is every record Arsenal either set or matched following their 6-0 win over Lens on Wednesday.

  • Arsenal’s 6-0 win is the biggest-ever victory by an English team against a French opponent in European competition.
  • Arsenal are the first side in ChampionsLeague history to have as many as five different scorers (excl. own goals) in the first half of a match in the competition.
  • Arsenal are the first English team to lead by 5+ goals at half-time in a Champions League match.
  • Gabriel Jesus is the first player to score in each of his first four Champions League games for an English club.
  • Arsenal’s 4-0 lead within 27 minutes is the joint-fastest an English side has ever scored four in a UEFA Champions League game, along with Manchester United v Brondby IF in November 1998 en route to winning the competition that season.
  • Bukayo Saka is the third player on record (2003/04 onwards) to both score and assist in three consecutive home games in the Champions League, after Karim Benzema (4 in 2011/12) and Luis Suárez (3 in 2015/16).

Flipping hell. Didn’t check this thread for a couple days and daaammmnnnnn.

All I’m seeing is some short sighted guys that don’t understand the point or value of an elite academy arguing against common sense. Probably the same guys that will be salivating over basics like Luiz in the transfer window.

Yes if you keep throwing money at every hole in your squad you will achieve success.

You’ll also end up broke…

The opposition might not be impressive admittedly, but if that list of records is true then that really is impressive man.

A huge European giant like slapping up one of the Milan’s and starting one of the kids would have made it perfect.

As it is, it’s almost been a dream start to CL that one loss aside.

Who do you want in the next round? I'm up for a bigger name after this group

Most impressive thing for me in Europe has been our approach.

Arteta has seemingly managed to coach parallel styles of play into the team. We approach the games In CL vs PL very differently. It’s not as simple as “handbrake on/off” - there’s subtle differences all over the pitch.

Having that kind of tactical flexibility is pretty impressive tbh. I hope we start to see a diff approach to the PL in the second half of the season.

Anyone who cant recognize Arteta's qualities as a manager are in total denial. I cannot even begin to comprehend those who want to rush to give the job to De Zerbi or Thomas Frank. Why would an Arsenal fan be so intent on sabotaging the progress we have made by giving the Arteta gains to an inferior manager to Arteta? If you type replace Arteta with De Zerbi/Frank into a computer you will get the blue screen of death.

Then there are those who want to gamble everything on the next couple of years by bringing in an experienced journeyman like Ancelotti. I think such an appointment would be a disaster. I prefer a manager who fuses himself to the club, rather than a 'coach for hire'. He barely even speaks English. Doesn't bode well for communication which is one of Arteta's best strenghs.

Although the criticism of Arteta has now shifted, from the 'football isn't entertaining', to he didnt give Nwanieri and Skelly a 15-minute cameo. I mean FFS, talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Between the PL and CL we have played 18 games and lost 2. Both of which were narrow defeats. We have been competitive in every game. Sit top of the league and have topped our CL group.

Ever since the PL settled into a straight shootout out between Pep/Klopp and Man City/Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Man United fluffed their lines trying to get into the race. Arteta got us into the race and conversation. People will say but look at the money he has spent. BUt then look at the money Chelsea have spent, look at the money United have spent. Klopp got to spend 80m on VVD and the same on Allison around 5 years ago - adjusting for inflation that's easy comparable to a modern day 100m signing. Pep is a grandmaster when it comes to the chequebook. Arteta spending money isnt unique, yet people try to claim its the only reason we are in the current position.

I know fans have varying opinions. But the suggestion Arteta isnt the man for the Arsenal job and alternates should be sought after, is just flat out wrong. If you want Arteta gone, you do not understand the dynamic at Arsenal.

Haha I can imagine. I hope you can imagine how much the relentlessly negative people piss those positive people off though( My guess is that it should be the same anger felt a bit more intensely)

Happy people for no reason are the dumbest mfers you can find; like most Americans they don’t own a pot p.ss in but they think they live in greatest country in the world. Euthanasia is too kind for these mfers it should hurt

Not ‘the leagues harder’ these days, again. It’s clearly not harder, that debate’s done and dusted. We’ve matched City £ for £ since 2019 and some of the clubs in the bottom half have had to buy a whole 25 man squad for not much more than Declan Rice cost. Some of you guys would slap your own grandma for Mikel preaching about hatred. Zip it bro. Wait . .

Hmm...so what you're saying is if they had a far superior squad to us in 2019 and we've not outspent them, it would be a good achievement to have caught them up with equivalent spending? Right? Right?!

Let's have a look at the squads...

I'm personally furious that Max Dowman wasn't given a runout, how are we supposed to say our academy is good if 14 year olds don't play for the first team?

I think it was @db10_therza who put it really well some time ago, if you’re in a race and your opponent starts 500m ahead of you, even if you match their pace you’ll still be 500m behind.

You're being too exact. Liverpool only needed to move up to having the 3rd highest squad cost and won the league with the right players and no holes in the sqyad. Arsenal is moving up by spending £ for £ with City for 4 years straight. Stan has suddenly turned into Bill Gates, so lets not knock it. He's giving Arteta evey opportunity.

Liverpool hired the best (if not the best then the second best - depends whom you ask) manager in the world.
Arsenal hired novice.
And Markstar showed you City and Arsenal squads from 2019.
I see a big difference in quality between two squads.

You are the only one bringing those names up in this thread:
What the **** is peoples problem with Arteta? People want to burn him for what? To bring in De Zerbi, Thomas Frank,
This is where you need to name a replacement. If your going to type that out, follow through and name a replacement.

But you dont, because if you namedrop Thomas Frank or De Zerbi, its like, so were destined to win the league now?
But why would we sack Arteta? Its what I cant comprehend. Some people want to sack Arteta, and then hire Thomas Frank or De Zerbi.
We also have fans thinking we would get better hiring Thomas Frank. Imagine thinking Thomas Frank is the key to breaking the Pep stranglehold on the league. Imagine thinking that sacking Arteta this week and hiring Thomas Fran the next week, would make Arsenal better.
Literally nobody else has been name dropping them for ages other than you

Arsenal Quotes

I want a fan to wake up in the morning and say, “Arsenal are playing today, I’m going to have a good time.” That guy starts his day off by thinking that something good is going to happen to him. And to do that, big clubs like Arsenal have to have the ambition to play spectacularly. Of shared happiness.
