Mikel Arteta: Working Jovertime

Should Arteta’s position as manager be under threat if we don’t win the PL or CL?

With Saliba leaving Arsenal this summer the entire Arteta project basically rests on this year.

Wow our window has been so short!

It’s the beginning of the end unfortunately I feel. We have to make this season count if we want to hold onto our stars.

It’s been a strong last 2 seasons but almost doesn’t count. Saliba and others will want to see big trophies and big medals in their personal cabinets.

Arteta needed this two week break and I hope he can be brave, decisive and clear minded when the PL restarts. My main concern is that we look very leggy and mentally jaded already. This so called decision to start slowly to conserve energy is cancelled out by the fact that we have to play harder

Leggy and mentally jaded? In which games are those?

The only performances that I wasn’t impressed with recently and can agree with you on are the 2 losses in the PL, Bournemouth and Newcastle.

When I look at the more games like Chelsea away, Inter away, I see a team on the way back or at the very least looking to get back to their levels we know they are capable of.

These players will give it a real go, you can be sure of that.

I just don't like the way he does things and the excuses from his fans that come along with it. If we were winning majors I could live with it but there's not even that, so I just watch in bemusement.

Many on here get so negative about known diva players like Mbappe and whatever, but are perfectly fine with this character and all his carry on?

I am just politely waiting for his tenure to be over but he probably gets a second rebuild if anything.

Im pretty sure he leaves sooner, even more so if this batch dont deliver major honours. Where does he go? I reckon either PSG or Barcelona and builds a team there.

He doesnt strike me as someone who would remain loyal to us.

I think what realy fries our collective noggins, is how we feel if he delivers a PL and/or CL, and then leaves after. Should make for interesting discussion here.

We finished on 89 points last year, a one game swing from winning the league, the best season we've had in the league for 20 years.

Not giving excuses it's just logic, you give the guy this season and if he regresses he needs to go.

He does not have the political nous to make it a Barcelona. If he serves the same brand of football even less so.

Could see him making at Bayen, tho. They don't care much about sufferball as long as they win stuff.

You man kept this quiet though. Think it's incredibly cheeky of Arteta is true.

There was all that talk about wanting X Factor before the summer but it’s definitely different seeing it spelt out like this and I don’t like it. It’s the step that comes right before tanking player value.

Also it’s just heroin for guys like @HagnSprayGooners who’s drawing up a shortlist as we speak.

Edit: Also last I heard re Jesus from these mouthpieces he was viewed as top 5 in the world smh

I dont think he plays sufferball in La Liga though, that's more a technical league, same for PSG. He'll probably have them both balling like we did in 22/23.

But agreed on the control issue, particularly at Barca. Think he has such control as a non-negotiable going in.

This first half of season 2022/23 was the best period under Arteta.
We were flying, no handbrakes, fluid, beautiful football, 50 points after 19 matches.
Unfortunately, first G. Jesus was 3 months out (since December to March), then Saliba and Tomiyasu (since March until the end of the season).
I'm afraid that we missed our train last season, to win against City you must have majority of your starters fit for more than 32-33 matches.
Like Liverpool in season 2019/20, 7 of their starters (TAA, Robertson, VVD, Wijnaldum, Mane, Firmino, Salah) played more than 34 matches.
We were lucky last season with injuries, only Timber and Partey had long term injuries.
This season we are not lucky anymore, many players injured (White latest) and suspensions.
Horrible start of the season.

Him acting like he’s a coach and had nothing to do with the make up of the squad would be consistent with what I seen of him as a manager. Very slippery character

I’m pretty sure he wanted a proper attacker this summer. Why it didn’t happen in the end and what his role was there idk though.

Arteta is a clown anyways, nobody is ever good enough. Whether that particular report is actually true or not i dunno.

I’m sure he wanted a lot. I’m also sure he was told there was a budget and he chose to prioritise the defence. He pushed for merino and calafiore. So him making excuses is consistent with his character. He also wanted backup keeper for almost 30 million
