Haven`t impressed med much this season but don`t get the hate today. Good pass to Trossard for the first goal, hit the post, three interceptions and five aerials won. Some people make it out like he was dreadful.
Those stats flatter him. Lost to a Tielemans diving header for their first, gives him time and space to shoot again a minute later, then his poor aerial clearance sets up their second. Even his disallowed goal was going wide before it struck Havertz. Utter liability.

I tried to watch a seven-minute YouTube comp and couldn't get past the third minute. It was like watching Feilani without the funny Fifa Clubs afro or the elbows flying into people's faces. To put it lightly, he is an eyesore. A meathead whose only positive stat is that he has been the best duel winner in European leagues for the last five years. Impressive, right? That sounds good until you realise he's been fighting 5 ft 5 paella-eating midgets in sunny Spain. As soon as he had to tussle with someone his own size he lost everything. 17 passes completed and 5 duels lost to be exact. Willock and Joelinton had him in a headlock. Then Tonali came and passed him out of the game.

Arteta has obsessed over the “box crashing left 8” for two years now and has got it wrong on both accounts. At least Kai is somewhat functional as a CF, Merino looks best as a bench option. Which means we've messed up a vital position and accrued another square peg to fit. £100 million on two left 8s who have less technical ability than Francis Coquelin. Incredible stuff.
Just want to bring this back up because as always, I'm proven right. Beating up 5 ft 4 Pablo and 5 ft 2 Javier at Sevilla doesn't make you a duel monster - it makes you a bully. The thing about bullies, when they face someone bigger than them they often run away.

Last night, I rewatched the highlights against Villa, and I'm angry again. How do lose a duel to Tielmans? This was the same Teletubby who was turned into a meme because he couldn't jog back.

Merino isn't nearly as athletic as people try to make him out to be. He's quite slow, and I suspect that his size and the pace of the league mean he tires out quicker than most. He is what Xhaka is if he couldn't pass, run, fight or shoot. Horrid player.

He's basically a lesser version of Rice.

Can we stop signing all these mechanical lorries for ****s sake? Get some technicians in.

He has better shooting and passing than Rice. Still adapting to the league and gaining cohesion with us.

Not World class but good enough squad player

Rice has a great shot and his passing when he trusts himself is excellent. I’ve tried with Merino but I’m not really seeing much of anything, never have. Newcastle he looked very ordinary, Dortmund he never stood out though I didn’t watch him loads admittedly. When we were first linked I was extremely underwhelmed yet I thought maybe he’s come on quite a way since I first watched him, he’s exactly the same, neat and tidy but offers very little to our offensive game.

Rice is a level above this guy but we’ve taken our £100m pound box to box CM and made him a high creative wide 8, sometimes dropping into a lone 6 basically because of our incompetence at fixing the left side of the attack and inability finding technical players who can actually receive high in central areas.

Listening to the AV podcast, Clive was rabbiting on about how great he was last night and the dude from the different knock keeps saying he’s a top player. I hate having players where you have to rewatch it about 5 times in slow motion to actually understand what they contribute.

JUST GET ME GOOD PLAYERS WHO ARE OBVIOUSLY GOOD PLAYERS FFS!!

Don't fall for the propaganda, it's all rubbish, they need to think of thier relationship/access to the club so they can't be honest, I like Clive Palmer, not so much the others, deep down I think he knows this guy is crap but has to chat **** to keep it all good in order to keep his current status and goodwill with those same people.

Looks like a Xhaka replacement alright. He's pony. Just needs to tell the fans to **** off to complete the transition.

Only similarity is that they both carry a toilet plunger on the pitch.

Rice is a world class plumber though. Will never have a clogged drain when he plays.

Merino is just tall and tries his best, but the toilet still won't flush.

First Gilberto. Then Patty V.

Now Elneny!?

Which Arsenal midfield legends are safe anymore from being compared to this current "lot"?

7/10 game. Put some mini dreads on him and that could have been peak Elneny.

We rag on him but he's really not bad at all, he's just not the player we want him to be.

He’s getting judged on some phantom standards that we’ve set. I’ve always maintained from day 0 that he was bought into be the extra body required for when Partey and Jorgi leave. He was available on the cheap and can cover multiple positions to an “acceptable” standard, like he did today. That’s the standards he should be judged on. The guy is fine for what he is here for.

He was never the final form of our midfield.

Arsenal Quotes

Arsène Wenger's idea is not only to play good football. It's to play good football to win. In my day, we knew that with our style we could hurt teams and win trophies too. But we did it our way, with the positional game, passing, movement.
