I don't like him as a striker, it's clear it's not a role suited to him. He just doesn't have the natural instinct which isn't his fault at all.

But he's worked hard and contributed a few goals. You can't asked more of him that that.

From next season I hope to never see him at striker again though 😁

We'll probably persist with him as a striker and keep him for rotational options next year, but he's really not of the required standard to win trophies with. Heck, I'd rather play him up front than in midfield, he's very prone to mistakes there.

Because he just working hard and help us scoring goals Arteta will keep using him there but with Saka back now we got 4 attacking players available we either need to use Martinelli or Trossard as CF

I remember back in the day, I used to get worried if Giroud scored too many goals...as I felt that might have convinced 2010s Wenger to keep him as a starter, instead of letting him become his natural role as a sub here.

I wonder if that will happen with the two Mikels here 😅

Difference is Merino doesn't have the instinctual abilities of a conventional striker.

And he doesn't have the workrate of a non conventional striker like Havertz, that Arteta tends to like.

I'd be amazed if we ever see him play CF for Arsenal again after this season bar another crazy injury crisis.

From Le GROVE - "Mikel Merino has more Premier League goals than Zirkzee, Rashford, Kudus, Grealish, Doku, Neto, KDB, and Højlund. He is level for output with Jota and Núñez."

including KDB is unfair, but bloody hell there's some piss poor attackers in this league this year

Been a bit of a laugh seeing him up front but genuinely impressive tonight. He's actually improving the more he plays there.

He is 1 in 2 as a CF. Just shows you how overrated that German Donkey is. I'm being 100% serious when I say we should sell the German and let Merino take his place.

You have to say that he's a doing a job he's not really suited to admirably. We can speak about how awkward it looks but learning to play ST on the fly in the most difficult league in the world cannot be easy and he deserves credit for the effort he's putting in there.

Or maybe it shows that defending in the PL isn't what it used to be. May I remind you that Chris Wood is on course for 20 league goals?

There's a real chance he'll finish the season as our best goal scorer.

Arsenal Quotes

An Arsenal fan, when you finish fourth, will say, “Hey, we’ve been in the top four for twenty years. We want to win the league!”. They don’t care that Manchester City or Chelsea have spent 300 or 400 million euros. They just want to beat them.
But if you finish fifteenth two years running, they will be happy if you finish fourth after that.
