Yeah, Arteta is definitely not one to favour someone purely off being older and having "experience".
If he did he wouldn't have cleaned house and handed the keys to Saka, ESR and Martinelli and others.
He even has went back on signings(or extension) made under him to favour youngsters.
Dude does not give a **** about age. He purely picks the best team he can on the occasion to win games, and that's not a bad thing if we want to be competing for big trophies.

i don't think this is will be our main midfield signing we cooking something behind the scene but want Partey to be sold first because he one of high earners here.. Merino is amazing depth signing that can play part during season.

If you think about the level of player (Onana, Merino, Bruno G) who we’ve been linked with that all offer similar things, Merino is by far the best value for money. He’d also happily accept a more rotational role.
Hopefully we are cooking something because we desperately need more on the ball quality.

of course Merino is much better signing value wise he at his peak meanwhile Onana still developing and i don't rule out we try again for Bruno Guimaraes but likely we moved on because of newcastle demands.
the other midfielder will depend on Partey we have to move him because with Merino if signed we have Merino Rice Partey Jorginho and also Vieira can play part as LCM that enough number wise.

Denis Suarez was deadwood at Barca and Dani is a glorified squad player.
Mikel Merino has been one of the best midfielders in La Liga for a couple years now, arguably Sociedad's best player.
He should have a greater impact here.
