Merino is typical "box to box" midfielder who is more similar to Rice than to Xhaka.
Xhaka is excellent passer, Merino is not passer at all, his passing is bad.
Merino is very good in aerial duels, interception of opposition’s counters, winning second balls and scoring headers.

If he arrives, I guess he would be used as Rice rotation/ substitution.

Oh I get it. That’s why I say we doing a Levy. We fell short twice in the league by very small margins. Being better prepared this season was the goal I thought to close those margins. We not city who has 4 in row and can take their time. We are the chaser who are trying to close every margin

Same here, his one good season was at LCM he was played out of his actual position Which is a DLP.

There are plenty of players who are specialised in the 8 role that can do a better job than Xhaka. We got rid of him for a reason, he was simply a stop gap for the LCM role.
