Mikel Starteta Wars - Phase IV: A Newaneri Hope

Should Arteta’s position as manager be under threat if we don’t win the PL or CL?

Can anyone? Not like City and Chelsea got where they are through great management.

£700m spent. Signed some injury prone players who are never available. Our attacks a mess, midfield isn’t much better. Our football is slow and boring.
Are we really headed in the right direction?
The league looks dead and buried for this season. Unless he pulls off a miracle and wins the CL, the owners need to seriously consider the management position in the summer! Especially if someone like Inzaghi would be tempted to take the job!

Our spending has allowed us to compete for the title two years in a row and maybe a third. Stop looking at everything through the lens of trophies (the players don’t care about the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup). What matters is the Premier League and the Champions League. We’re almost there (at least for the Premier League), but this year we’ve been really unlucky with injuries. It’s hard to play good football without your key players (as we can clearly see with Rodri and Manchester City).

Think with recent developments it might be time for an update to that anyway @Trilly

Will be hard to beat the first version tho, been what two years and I still remember "watch him destroy Mikriders whether it's with thoroughly researched stat based Arteta hatred or a well timed 'suck your mum'" or that random poster who made the bench by battering @Macho in training

I think you and @Dokaka are both right but it depends on “the phase of the process”.

Generally you’re better off going for the lower cost gambles esp when building out a squad. But when you’re in a position where almost all the work is done but you’re just one rose short of a bouquet- just go and get the job done. Pay up, do whatever you need to, don’t jeapordise the years of work it took you to get where you are because of some sunken cost fallacy bullshit.

Edit: actually you’re not right about a bunch of stuff. It’s not “hard” to upgrade our LW and CF. I don’t know what you’re on about. Like yeah Gordon at £60m would absolutely make us a better team??

When were on the cusp of winning in 2001 we signed Sol Campbell for free. Don't always need to spend big money if you scout sensibly.

Unfortunately we've overspent in recent years without sufficient sales. Liverpool were able to bring in Van Dijk and Fabinho because they made some big sales like Coutinho. Similarly, ourselves under Wenger, sold big players to rebuild and improve the squad.

We're not City or Chelsea and even they have sold better than us in recent years

My days of creative/funny posting are over. This team has sucked the fun out of me.

Feel like he’s really under appreciated for what he did at Pool and I say that as someone who couldn’t stand him.
People will bring up what he spent on Van Dijk or Alisson, but they won the league and CL after doing so. The Van Dijk fee we’ve spent on Calafiori, Kiwior and Zinchenko for **** sake

Also did it with Dortmund, won the league and turned them into proper CL contenders.

Ngl I rate him extremely highly, up there in GOAT manager contention for me for what he's done with relatively few resources. Lord have mercy if he ever gets a job at a team with an infinite money glitch.

As much as he has his share of responsibility, the people who call him a fraud are ridiculous. He literally took over a club that was the doormat of all the big European clubs and transformed it into a team that fights for the title every year. This has been a really tough season, especially because of the injuries we’ve been dealing with week after week. He’s at fault for some of his choices during the transfer window, but seriously, can we really blame him for making a few wrong decisions? Guardiola has made them, Klopp has made them, Ten Hag has made them, Ancelotti has made them, and I could say the same for all the other coaches.
😂😂😂. Doormat of European clubs? Wenger qualified for Champions league for 20 years straight on a shoe string. And reached a final, a semi final and 4 quarter finals.

Arteta got knocked out of the Europa league in round of 32 in 2020, then got beaten by Unai in 21, then didn’t even qualify for the European Conference in 22, 23 got knocked out of the Europa league in the round of 32, then got knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16. All spending nearly £800 million in 5 years.

Remind me again when we were the doormat of European clubs.

The thing with Klopp is he'd turn Julian Brandt into something special. I mean ffs he made Wijnaldum/Fabinho/Henderson look better than KDB/Rodri/Silva when they played against each other.

Are you saying Arteta is not very good managers? Another one that is jumping the sinking ship hmm

Completely dominated by Man City.

Won the league twice with Dortmund vs. Germany's City, won the Prem, won the CL with Liverpool before Pep managed to do it with City and sprinkled in an FA Cup as well.

All on almost half the wage budget of City.

But yeah, completely dominated.

No, I said Klopp is twice the manager Arteta is.

Liverpool are still a rich team regardless but they didn't really do much compared to City that won like 6 out of the last 7 or something like that. Not to mention they lost the CL to Real Madrid who are much richer too, beating Sp**s who are much poorer.

Genuinely what the hell is your point? Klopp won everything on a meager budget compared to the big spenders, it's not up for debate. He did it, and he also pushed them to the limit several times.

That you need to outspend your rivals to win titles unless it's an outlier. You were too desperate instead of actually thinking about what you're posting. Klopp was never on a meager budget at Liverpool anyway, it's just City proving my point.

Arsenal Quotes

In June 1996, David Dein, Peter Hill-Wood and Danny Fiszman came out to Nagoya to meet me on behalf of Arsenal. Within an hour we came to an agreement. The Japanese directors didn't try to keep hold of me in the usual way but talked with persuasive arguments... But as far as I was concerned, the decision was taken. Arsenal. A decision that would change my life.
