Mikel Starteta Wars - Phase IV: A Newaneri Hope

Should Arteta’s position as manager be under threat if we don’t win the PL or CL?

Mental how far they came under Flick, Madrid got annihilated.

He also was given one signing and the guy been 50% injured and 50% unregistered. Weird how the team is still looking much improved from last season's 2nd place finish with no additions
I wanted Flick in Arsenal, even before Inzaghi.

Got the wrong players profile wise in the summer. Now the board won't can't get the players in the window. Because he lost a bit of trust from the board.

...and then He woke up sweating !!!

Don’t know what to make of this tbh.

Firstly, you have to be sceptical of these Twitter stats, but you can see this in the way we play.

Along with City, we most likely do come up against the highest amount of low blocks, so naturally have to build out wide.

Secondary, it confirms how reliant we are on the right hand side. Stop that and you stop Arsenal.

Doesn’t Rate Any Of Our Attackers
In Wenger’s first 5 years as manager, he signed attacking players including Anelka, Overmars, Kanu, Ljungberg, Henry, Wiltord, and Pires. Also ones that weren’t so successful like Boa Morte, Suker, and Jeffers.

In Arteta’s 5 years as manager, he’s signed attackers Willian, Jesus, Trossard, Marquinhos, Havertz, and Sterling on loan. If we’re being generous we could include Ødegaard.

Wenger not only signed more attackers but he signed much much better attackers. It’s actually incredible how bad Arteta’s attacking signings have been.

When you take into account a 5 year period I think it’s demonstrative of his qualities as a manager.

Aren’t they reading the graph wrong? 7% is on par with Liverpool and City, better than Chelsea.

Half spaces are what’s significantly lower than everyone else.

Our wingers are hugging the touchline. It might help if they are closer to goal, especially Martinelli.
Better Martinelli would definitely unload Saka's burden.
Opponents would have to take more care of Martinelli, therefore Saka would have more space.

The Twitter dude is wrong, this has nothing to do with Saka getting doubled up on. Doesn't mean it's not a potential worry, but it speaks more about your lack of direct passing through the middle in transitions than it does about your overall setup.

The "central space" part of the graph is incredibly misleading - notice how all the top teams in that stat a very direct teams using transitions as their main threat? Those teams don't face the same amount of incredibly compact mid/low blocks on a weekly basis, nor do they care about ball retention in the same way.

The main worry on that graph is the lack of half-space penetration, because that is how you unsettle modern defenses and - in Arsenal's case - stop teams from being able to double up on Saka in the way teams do. Having so little thread in the half-spaces is why you see Saka and Martinelli getting isolated 2vs1 because teams aren't actively fearing someone exploiting the space they leave behind by doing so.

It has been debated a lot in this forum that it would help if our wingers operate closer to the goal, not so close to the touchline.

Imagine if Kolo Toure two footed Arteta in training instead of Wenger, wonder how that would have went down lol?

Kolo and the club wouldn't have become Invincibles, while what would be poor Parlour's icebreaker of a story to everyone...so much would have been different

Arsenal Quotes

My first ever football memory was Charlie George's double winning goal in 71. After that game; I just became an Arsenal fan.
