Mikel Starteta Wars - Phase V: The Empire's Firing Blanks

Should Arteta’s position as manager be under threat if we don’t win the PL or CL?

Top posting! Been saying on here for years how diffiicult it is to stay high up in the prem with injuries. 15/16 we had the worst injuries ever, surprised you didn't remember that, but you were only about 4 years old then. When I mentioned it on AM, dozens of posters told me "Injuries aren't an excuse ffs". Really hope that doesn't happen to you bro.

Luck wasn't on Wenger's side in terms of injuries. Rosicky missed his whole career after joining us.

Huh? You don't know anything about me man. This is the problem with you. You think anyone who likes Arteta was WengerOut. I love Wenger. I didn't even want him gone in 2018.

League is very weak
Didn’t watch the Sp**s game due to work stuff, but what a difference a few day mistakes. On Sunday it was the end of the world and people wanted him sacked, and a few days were linked to Zubi and have cut down the lead in the title race.

With that being said, would you then consider it to be an excuse for us this year? How does this factor into your assessment of Arteta’s management of the team this season?

In fairness the season isn’t over yet, but I haven’t found a clear spot where I land on this topic.

I think I’m roughly at a point where I’d say the overall results have been relatively good in light of the circumstances, but the turgid performances themselves are not as excusable.

Injuries are always an excuse. Teams can’t perform at their best if their top players are out. Look at City. Fortunately now for Arteta, Arsenal fans seem to understand it. What’s precipitated progress on this learning curve, who knows?

Yeah quite right. To my original question, how do you feel we have fared? It sounds like you’re leaning more towards Boon’s original post if I’m understanding correctly.

Kudos to him, good setup to exploit Maatsen. Goal had help from Emi but we have had fun on that side the whole half.

Yeah, I praised Boon for his post. We have a solid squad now so there’s always replacements. Martinelli has played Sakaesque today. And Timber doing better than Holding, replacing Saliba. That’s what investment gives you.

Just wish we managed the style of play better through this season tbh.

We were too spoiled for too long with a manager who, under most any circumstance, put out a team set up to entertain.

That's, like, your opinion, man.

Being serious, I feel for Mikel and having so many players out. Game was won and the players stopped focusing.

We did really well for 65 or so minutes, but Ødegaard was having an off day and Merino looked gassed.

HAVING SAID THAT, this is yet another one of those games where the lack of a proper summer window is the thing that did us in.

Someone explain to me. Is there a rule that says you can’t change formation to win a game? Throw in Butler as a striker just to have another body in there?

And before anyone says he’s not good enough. Neither was Macheda. In a game your season is being over he refused to take a gamble and go for it. Once again his mentality is why we will never win anything big. Just gamble and go for it

These players are refusing time and time again to take responsibility and step up.

Mikel is incredible.

Arsenal Quotes

I often relive those 49 undefeated matches. I do believe in signs to a certain extent, and as I was born in 1949, I sometimes tell myself it was our destiny to lose the 50th. Those 49 matches are etched within me and within each player: it is something fundamental, a triumph born out of passion.
