The Sun ( :eek:ops: ) has linked us with defender Mirel Radoi of Steau Bucharest.

He's a centre back, and will be 24 at the end of the month. According to <a class="postlink" href="http://www.footballtransfers.info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.footballtransfers.info</a> he is 177cm tall (or not tall). I hadn't heard of him, so I did a quick Google seasrch and found this link to an AC Milan forum - they seem to like him there, but are convinced he's going to Palermo and then Inter. Perhaps The Sun just found the story, knew we were after a Cb and made it up. :shock: :)

For a player who's done well in the UEFA Cup, 1.5m is a bargain. I wouldn't be surprised if Wenger was after this guy.

Yup - he's a REAL Champ Man classic this guy. Always a bargain, and always class. Seen nothing of him in real life, so can't really comment, but his height would worry me.

Him, and George Shashiashvili (£350,000 from Dinamo Tibilisi) formed the basis of my Lens defence for years :)

A little report on Radoi from a Romanian:

He´s strong. Not so good as Chivu with the ball but acceptable level in that sense. Not too tall but quick and agressive in the mark. He´s versatile, can play as central defender, right back or defensive midfielder.
The best of him is that he always plays with all the senses on the game, he´s very competitive, he´s a winner...so he´s far from the typical negative Romanian mentality. He´s not similar to Mutu in the "Playboy issue". Not all the Romanians are like Mutu, as well as not all are like Hagi, Belodedici or Popescu...

Sometimes Radoi is a bit too agressive, mainly because he wants to win every ball, but his conditions are very good. He´s a leader in Steaua with 23 years old and he´s the captain since he´s 21. He plays usually with the Romanian NT since he´s 20 years old, with games vs Italy, France or Germany for example.

I think he´ll leave Steaua at the end of the season, but I don´t know which will be his destiny.

And you don't need to be overly tall if you've got a good verticle leap. Fabio Cannavaro isn't exactly tall, is he?

On a slightly different note, my mother used to breed Poll Hereford cattle, and my sister and I named one of her bulls "Lacatus" (sp??) after the Romanian striker at Italia 90.

once again bringing up an old topic, a pretty strange end it had TBH.

But this guy Radoi is appartently going to play for Romania gainst Holland on Saturday his opponent will be Ruud van Nistelrooy.

A good chance to see if this guy (Radoi, not RvN :wink: ) has any talent.

haha agreed though VNistelrooy is not in very good form so the task may be easier than expected. I belive it is very hard to judge a defender when they mark VNistelrooy as he i sthe sor tof player who you can mark superbly for 85minutes, then there is a scramble in the box an dthe next minute you see him celebrating. he scores 2-3 goals in games where he has been marked out!

This guy is really talented and a cultured CB... I was alerted to this guy by a Romanian friend of mine and saw him when we played Steau in UEFA Cup.. he was really good and would be a good buy although I think Man U will get him before you guys... they already have been tapping him for a while
