Do you care about results or just realizing an EDL fantasy?
Reading it back it sounds pretty bad, sos.

It's what I want though.
The 89-91 team was a thing of supreme beauty.
That team, with the addition of Gazza and Lineker, would have won England the World Cup in Italia 90
My Dad's family is from Kentish Town, Mum from Switzerland.
We moved to England start of the Seventies, my Mum is still there, living by the Coast in Essex.

The Arsenal is a British team, founded by scottish...you know the history.

I know we are a 'Global Brand' now, but for me that sucks.
We're known as Arsenal London here. It means nothing.

I go away in Europe to most games. I meet lots of Gooners from other parts of the World. I don't understand most of them. It seems so ridiculous. it's sad that they haven't got a real life, and that they are trying to be part of something that they will never be a part of.

If you're not going to 90% of the games then you're not a real fan. So for that you have to live in England. That's possible for nearly everyone these days. Get a job, sign on, whatever, follow the team.

Going to an english-themed pub at the weekend in USA/Asia/wherever and wearing your new kit doesn't make you an Arsenal fan, it makes you...I don't even know what.

Same with the Arsenal team.
A collection of people assigned to you by agencies from the 4 corners of the World to go and live together in London and play a 'team' sport just doesn't make sense.

Under Wenger we had a french-based team with an English defence.
That worked very well. Then we had a french-based team with International Stars that worked very well for a short period, but only because it had an Identity. French. We were understandably hated by the Powers that Be in England, refs, the FA ( after DD left ) etc.

What we have now is dog ****.
I don't even want to contemplate what we really have now.
Foreign owner, foreign agents, foreign players, no identity, just a plastic badge and a plastic football ground.

This all sounds delusional. People can watch all the games on TV doesn't matter if you rub elbows with the likes of DT.

Football is a globalised international sport you're never gonna get this brexit fantasy of only British players etc. That's setting yourself back 30 years. If you want to win anything you get the best players you possibly can regardless of where they're from. Nothing I want more than Martinelli to be the next Brazilian superstar.

I think it's harsh to try and tell someone they can't be a ''Proper'' Arsenal fan just because they live in another country or don't attend every game.

I'm English and go to watch us play regularly. I also travel internationally quite frequently with work and I've met people all around the world who are just as passionate about Arsenal as me that have never set foot in the UK, never mind The Emirates, and probably never will. It doesn't make them a lesser fan than me or less passionate about the club.

Trying to gatekeep fandom or even players by nationality is weird as hell. I'm sure you were appalled when we appointed Wenger as manager too with him being a Frenchman.

Sure we're an English club with a lot of history and tradition to be cherished. Football's globalist in nature though, that's what's largely driven it's success over the past 20 years or so. It's never going back to some parochial attitude where every player was born within a 30 mile radius of the club and fans just supported whichever club was nearest to their birthplace. Nor should it.

You read it back, thought it sounded bad and then the follow up was worse. You've graduated from garden variety xenophobia to electing yourself arbiter of who can support a 134 year old football club that you have no official affiliation with and who strive to grow their fanbase around the world because football is a global game. Wow. All this mind you when you're as foreign as the people you're slating. How do you think you've come off in your second attempt? 32 years of life and I'm yet to meet an intelligent racist or bigot.

Do the majority of season ticket holders even attend 90% of games

No it's not lol, in your analogy the footballers are the pornstars and we're all wankers whether there in person or watching through a screen.

I had 'official affiliation'.
My family had 'offical affiliation'.
We don't have that anymore as some foreign arsehole now has them

No you didn't, you poor deluded soul. Nobody at the club knows or cares who you are. I do however appreciate the hole you're digging yourself on here being more bigoted with each post as eventually it will get you banned and this forum made of people from all different backgrounds and viewpoints united by a love of this club can be free of such supreme ignorance.

If you want only British players for your sport team football isn’t going to be the one.

Maybe field hockey, rugby union or some other dead sport is the way to go.

Football’s the national sport in over 100 countries so there’s going to be incredible diversification. You need the best players to win be they from Egypt, Norway or wherever.

What would be the quintessential English sport anyhow? I would have thought darts would be in with a shout?

When I lived in England, I went to see cricket, rugby, horse racing, but I really liked going to the pub to play darts. It seemed to be a sport where practically anyone can participate, and it is easy to set up.

It combines easily with beer, what is not to like?

As you lie in bed at night, ask yourself this questions before you fall asleep:

1. Have I been enough of a Gunner Gooner today ?

The answer, sadly, is not yes.

Plastic Gooner!

The only thing I’d say on this is would football be better from a parity perspective if it was like in the 1980s where a lot of players stayed in their own countries.

Now in the CL there’s about five or six clubs who will always be favourites every year. The days of Steaua Bucharest or Red Star Belgrade winning it are long gone.

I think sustainability wise considering how many clubs around Europe are under pressure of folding a restriction on transfers and reversion back to the old model might be interesting.

The likes of Molde would have a very good team if they were able to hold onto their youngsters for longer. Now we have a few teams stockpiling talent in an 18 member squad.

The PL would drop significantly in quality but every European game would have a star in it.

Yeah, but that would never happen again, while there is big difference between top clubs with money and othes.Nowdays,it's big surprise when Bayern,Juventus or PSG don't win title in their leagues and that wasn't case 15 years ago.Champions League had 6-7 favourites and you knew which team can win it at the start of the season. It's like that for 20 years now.

Only thing that can repair something is to make model like EPL where all teams have decent amount of money to buy good players and to make league somehow competitive or if some club have rich owner and can hold quality players for longer time in club.Like Chelsea,City,PSG.

Yeah it’s never going to happen, the big six would disappear and you’d have the likes of Southampton and West Ham others with good academies competing for titles.
