We also have no space for him.

Ødegaard and Kai (as much as people don’t like it) are options there, with Ethan also likely to play there more next season.
Depends who we let go and how we adopt in the future.

Our attack was blunt all of last season and we were thread bare come the end of the season.

Everyone should be fearful that their place is up for grabs. If we want to compete on all fronts then we need to remove the comfort levels some players currently have.

When I’ve watched him, only a few times to be fair, he seems a to be a bulldozer when running with the ball, but a bit lacking in technique. I’m not entirely sold on this one and I think Villa would be unlikely to sell him.

We need different profiles ahead of him but I wouldn’t say no.

I actually think profile wise, we could really do with a guy like him (PnP dribbling from the middle, G/A ect).

Its just CF and LW are slightly ahead in terms of priorities.

This is where last summer was a disaster. Lets say if we could have got the Sesko thing over the line, all efforts could be on the LW and a guy like Rodgers.

Yeh agree I would love if we moved the ball faster in the middle (Zubi would facilitate this but I mean mentality wise from the coach) and to play someone like Rogers in midfield.

But Arteta’s mentality is probably lending to Rogers being LW and continuing Rice x Ødegaard as CMs.

I think this summer is really showing how rigid and lacking of imagination we are - and I must admit it comes down to Arteta just as much as the board. Liverpool and City are buying different types of players that you wouldn’t normally expect them to even need/target - especially city.

And meanwhile we are still gonna be playing CBs at fullback, still have a lack of spark creativity wise, and are still targeting the same players we wanted for the last 1-2 years.

I highly doubt we are looking for Rogers on top of a marquee LW signing. If we were, it would show we have elite ambition - January showed this is highly unlikely.

Rogers for me would compete with Ødegaard, but we're obviously not bringing in a player at that price level for that specific role.

I think there are pro's and cons to it. We are definitely rigid in the market in the Arteta era, we go for a really specific type of player, which means we have fewer duds, but also fewer potential superstars.

Someone who isn’t rigid would think that maybe Rogers can sometimes play with Ødegaard as well. If we went City mode where they hoarded creative players and rotated.

Yeah, I’d be all for that.

I actually think Rogers is the profile we’re missing in midfield. He basically ticks every box for me.

Šeško, Rodrygo and Rogers is my wishlist scenario.

Problem is it costs around 270-300m including Zubimendi. We have enough money for it but won’t spend it.

If we can’t sign a Rodrygo level guy then I would take a Semenyo instead on top of the people we have mentioned.

I don't mean to make this into an Arteta thing but this is something that @A_G and I especially have worried about for a while, it started for me when I realised that what Arteta wants in a striker pretty much rules out most realistic targets. He requires a set of attributes in a striker that means he either wants somebody perfect Isak or will 'settle' for someone like Havertz with no room inbetween for strikers who would get us more goals than Kai. It's a big part of why we've ended up with two strikers on the books, neither of which can really finish.

It's been a theory up until this point but I feel like the fact we're going for Sesko because he can become what Arteta wants in a striker at the expense of someone who will score more goals right now is a decent example of this happening. I think it's even clearer with the LW where it's been Williams or bust up until this summer.

Meanwhile we're seeing our rivals focus more on just signing talented footballers and worrying about the rest later. We don't really know how Wirtz fits into Liverpool but we know he's super talented, same with Cunha at United and Cherki/Nouri at City.

Mikel's specificity is what got us out of the mud but it's in danger of holding us back now. Sometimes you just have to sign talented footballers and make it work. It looks like we're only signing talented players if they fit into pre-defined roles in the squad. Not saying we need to win every transfer battle but a team that just had the difficulties with chance creation that we had this season should at least be interested in guys like Wirtz and Cherki.

Semenyo is not a bad shout.
In case of Rogers (Villa) and Kudus (West Ham ) are tough deals to crack like 140m for both and in both cases players also have to push a bit.
Kudus we can get if we can strike a deal.
Rogers is tough one.
For this reason alone Leao is an option if wages and deal can be struck.

Trouble is elite players are simply not available.

I knew we were very different, that he (Ferguson) had a total hold over his club while at that time I was still more of a coach. I also recognised his huge qualities. He knew how to surround himself with the right people and didn't rest on his laurels when he was successful.
