Probably way off, but in some clips. in transition, there are shades of KDB about him. wonder if arteta sees him as a player who can provide that same dynamism. Not sure if he can play central, or what his final ball is like, but it could be an option as he adapts more to the league.

Either that or its likely ESR will be sold come the summer.

Isak was definitely a bullet dodged as when we were linked, I was never fully convinced he would be a good fit for us plus I’m not sure we were willing to go to the sort of valuations that Real Sociedad had in mind. I do hear that part on Lisandro though as it would have been interesting to see how he would work in our high line system, I think at Utd he has the luxury of playing in such a deep block which suits his style:

For me, Tielemans is another Lorik Cana, all smoke but absolutely no fire in that one. It’s more some fans wishing that we get him more than anything as if you look our current system, where does he fit in? He’d be absolutely useless in Xhaka, Partey or Ødegaard’s role and recently we’ve been going for players who can fill into more than one position, the signings of Fabio Vieira, Jesus, Zinchenko, Ben White and Tomiyasu are prime examples.

I do fully agree regarding the prioritisation and that’s something I highlighted in the past even when we signed both Ben White and Tomiyasu instead of signing a natural RB but even that has worked out for the club. For some reason, I think we’ll go for Mudryk + a striker on loan (not João Felix) as we can’t be relying on kids like Cozier-Duberry on the bench especially when we have harder tests like City, Sp**s, Utd etc. All in all, I reckon Mudryk will be a good signing for us and many are sleeping on the fact that being a pace merchant is a very useful attribute to have in the PL, just look at how Son has refined his game when he moved over here to the PL.

Surprised Sp**s are not all over this one if I’m being honest.

What's this consensus on Tielemans suddenly. He has weaknesses in his game, but I'm struggling to get behind that he has suddenly become some rubbish.

Xhaka has looked better because of the system. The 2 3 5 with Zinchenko essentially forming a double pivot with Partey means he isn't in our own box giving penalties away or on the half way line trying to make a last ditch tackle. He is trying to run beyond.

Does Tielemans not fit that role? Will his flaws not be hidden the same way as Xhaka? Tielemans doesn't hold onto the ball long, he passes forward and people need to acknowledge the quality of our team.

I watched the Liverpool game and then ours. Comparing all four teams. Our passing is on another level. Everything about it. The weight of pass, the way it goes to the back foot, the way players move to receive. Our players take two touches when others take 3. They know where to be and where the ball is going. It is excellently coached.

One thing Tielemans has is that he is an elite passer. He would literally slot into the Xhaka role and be able to replicate it. Premier league ready. I don't see this as a bad signing at all. I wouldn't be surprised if we slim him down also the way Xhaka has.

He bridges the gap nicely between Xhaka and Patino/Nwaneri. He would be a mega superstar signing, but would be like a Gundagan in our squad. Also, we cannot ignore his shooting ability around the edge of the box. We seem to be looking to underpin with quality.

It’s a lot of money from a bloke with a handful of games in Ukraine, but if Arteta is willing to spend that much money on him he must rate him extremely highly, and you have to trust Arteta’s judgement at the moment, especially his talent ID.

On a free, i have absolutely no issues with the signing. He can cover/compete with both Xhaka and Ødegaard.

I guess the issue is do we not need someone who can cover/compete with both Partey and Xhaka more? Seeing as we have Vieira as understudy to Ødegaard?

He looks like he's got that Son type speed and dribbling, will take him a while in the Prem but conditions are okay for us as he's not expected to come in and start scoring.

Don’t get me wrong, Son is a flattering comparison for mudders obviously, but in terms of speed he is well clear of Son.

Let’s be real, Tielemans is a luxury player to some extent, actually this current version of Tielemans isn’t even that, as he looks woeful with barely any real standout quality. He’s a 5 or possibly a 6/10 if I’m feeling generous in all the departments you mentioned for me but he’s definitely the sort of players that we should stay far away from in our current system. He epitomises everything that people were slating the likes of Özil, Aubameyang etc of being, in addition to that he lacks a real star quality the two above have and is horribly off form. He’s literally the 2022 version of signing Mkhitaryan whereby some think he’ll magically come in and change his fortunes at the club when he’s been really smelly for a large sample size.

Everyone who is pro Tielemans is clutching at that little hope that he rediscovers his form during his first season at Leicester and promise he showed early in his career but this blip has shown me a lot of what type of player he is. Mentally very weak, terrible work rate off the ball and error prone which are all huge red flags for me. If this is all a ploy (I don’t think it is as he looked average for Belgium too) to get a move out of Leicester then that is alarming and I’d stay away just for that.

It says a lot when @Heavy Duty Rom and many other fans are happy to take him if he’s available on a free or minimal fee but if the club has to spend 30m+ on him I’m sure many would he extremely against the signing. Does he improve our first eleven? No. Is he better than Xhaka or Partey? Once again, no. Would I take him as a squad filler? Yes but if that’s at the detriment of signing a top class midfielder in the summer due to his high wages then I can’t back this signing unfortunately as he doesn’t improve our first eleven - that’s just my take on it.

Edit: It’s very telling that many clubs seem to be staying way clear of Tielemans despite many of them needing midfielders. They could have all probably picked him up way below his market value since he’s running down his contract. It will be very interesting to see who picks him up as I hope Man Utd do.

He was so bad in the World Cup.

Honestly it was painful viewing.

Want you to explain one point to me as I agree with most of what you've said.

Why/How do you think/know he is mentally weak?

I actually felt sorry for him at times, the amount of times he’s been put in a blender for Leicester whenever I’ve watched him has been as painful as that WC viewing.

Man are really trying to sell this to me and these are just two examples, there are many more:
