Redondo was probably the best #6 of his generation. I wouldn’t go as far as that, even stylistically, but it’s definitely rare to see a young English player with MLS’ qualities. His reading of the game will only improve the more first team exposure.

on what was said to Lewis-Skelly after the game:
There were a few actions that he did really well, a few he has to understand a bit better – especially the focus and attention these games demand. He really wants it.

I really like the look of the player and hope he makes it but where is he supposed to play? At left back arteta would pick calafiori, Zinchenko, kiwior, tomiyasu, timber and a fit tierney all before him and he would never player a 17 year old as the deepest midfielder instead of Jorginho, partey and rice.

If Arsène was manager I'd say the reason we are not buying a peak age 6 is that MLS is being groomed for the role. With Arteta that is probably not the case.
Good or bad idk

Imagine having a future all english midfield trio in MLS-Rice-Ethan.

No pressure kid.

Agreed!

I've been on this train from the beginning. He's just as big a talent as Nwaneri is and hasn't gotten anywhere near the fanfare - and I think that's probably to his benefit. He has everything a modern midfielder needs to be great. Unstoppable scything dribbles through teams at his best, often at will. And if it's not on, he's such a talented passer of the ball, often squeezing the ball into forwards from deep and taking players out of the game. And - Arteta's favorite - he loves duels. Genuinely, don't think I've seen him really shy away from one ever. One could argue that the only thing really missing is a knack for goals but he's so talented I wouldn't put it past him to develop that if he wants to. Joe Willock was never a great goalscoring midfielder (still isn't - kind of) and all of a sudden he was popping up in great positions.

I think he should be #5s replacement - as early as this coming season even. It won't happen but that's what should happen. He's doing all the same things minus the wayward 40 yard shots (and of course yellow box) so that should be the more natural progression. LB is one way of getting him in but it's not ideal. Either way, he's impressing and I hope this continues into the season.
I have a gut feeling he's being prepared by Arteta to take up the 6 mantle once TP5 and/or Jorghino leaves, but he's helping him first of all hone his defensive skills by playing him at left back. Also, Arteta being coy always, would likely keep us fans guessing and the media spotlight away from him till he's fully developed for the role.

Watching him play, Lewis-Skelly is the real deal for the 6. He's the Joao Neves fans were asking for.

Yeah, if Arteta has even a bit of Wenger's courage Lewis-Skelly should make that position his own at 19.

But the boy looks hungry to play and do what he's being told in whatever position he's being played at (from the little I've seen of his performances), and that can only bode well for him. Reminds me of how Saka made it. So maybe he just might breakthrough as well.

Caught off guard for their goal.

The LB position can suit him more as he develops so he trains his defensive instinct and positional awareness a bit more. But his future is at 6, 100%.

Playing with no fear in his game, hope he doesn't lose this.

I remember Nelson playing RW in preseason next to Özil and balling out, then he lost his confidence.

Nwaneri too, took the ball and accelerated, something we need in the middle

He is just so smooth with it. Reminds me so much of how Redondo used to play from the passing to the slaloming dribbling technique

I was gonna say that was a Kieran Gibbs like performance. Basic passing, nothing impressive. A few dribbles that didn't work. Didn't look out of place, but then made the mistake to concede the goal. Should go out on loan.

Wait what?

How are you comparing him to Gibbs?

What?

I hope Arteta was serious about he and Nwaneri getting minutes if their performances warrant them. I was impressed with their fearlessness in their very brief cameos last preseason and they've both improved greatly and look ready to contribute. No reason someone like Vieira or Nelson should be ahead of either right now. We have a team that is ready to win a title which has matured greatly in the last couple of seasons, and as such, they are also better suited to help integrate and protect these young players when they're called upon.

Mods are unethical! Özil, come assist me please!
You can tell this kid wants the pressure and ball. Don't see him being ever a passenger in matches based on play style. He wants to dictate the tempo. We need to get him into the rotation.

Hopefully aarteta utilize him this year.

Arsenal Quotes

You kind of never leave Arsenal. How many comebacks do you make? At one point it will turn out to be a bad move. We all love the first Rocky but I'm not too sure about the last one.
