Looks comfortable in the middle yet will be asked to play in a role he's clearly not comfortable with. Maybe more minutes will help that. I feel for him as I like him.

I thought he was very poor first half. He was playing like he was almost disinterested. It was very odd tbh.

Second half he grew into the game and looked more like the player we know.

@MutableEarth made a good point in the match thread, we’ve largely abandoned the LB coming into midfield this season, as Rice is playing a more conventional box to box role.

The LB is basically playing a more traditional role, which takes away from MLS’s strengths.

Must say as well, some of the reaction to this kid has been shocking. We’ve seen him be the best player on the park (with Rice) against Real Madrid in a 5-1 agg victory. He’s absolutely top draw, and the some fans have turned on him has been poor. He’s a super talent.

The kid played next to no minutes this season, came in during a tie where everyone was off form against Pool and three days later in a completely rotated team away from home against a team battling for their lives.

Give him time ffs.....remember the old Wenger saying about confidence? That's more than true with young players like MLS.

Calafiori doesn't play like a traditional LB, he just does what he wants and feels like at any given moment.

He doesnt come nearly as much into midfield, he more roams down the left flank, which isn’t too dissimilar to attacking fullbacks of the last 15 years or so.

If he isn't inverting from LB, play him in midfield or just sell him. Confidence has taken a massive hit since Tuchel dropped him. Arteta isn't helping things.

When he inverts, he's fantastic. He has a great through pass on him. He defends like Alexander-Arnold though. Basically says to the winger "ahh get this over with already I wanna run forward."

His ability to turn away from a defender using their own momentum is a thing of beauty. At the moment he's getting minutes in a role he had never played until last season. His future is in midfield, anyone who watches him on a regular basis can see that.

I love him. I just don't love him at left back 😅

His physical limitations when it comes to pace also makes him a complete mismatch as full-back. Any halfway quick winger can easily outrun him.
He really needs a very specific role as LB for it to work.

Not sure I completely trust him in that Zubimendi role though. Because that's a very important position in our team. Does he have the passing range for that?

MLS just isnt a left back and thats the biggest issue here, he moves great with the ball due to that thick gyatt, but he cant defend for ****. He is out of position a lot getting caught up field, he is easily passed and his standard response to that is dragging a player down. 3 yellow cards in 312minutes of prem football this season is insanity, if he was our regular left back he would be missing games left right and centre due to the acumulation of cards. Personally id sell him this summer, i feel like he could be the type of player that never kicks on and then his value tanks, we have seen it with Nelson and Wilock. MLS at LB reminds me of wan-bissak a player who isnt quite good enough for the top level.

I watch all the england games and MLS was so bad against andorra, there is a reason o'rielly is getting picked ahead of him.

Firstly thrice = sick band, secondly you were typing exactly what i was at the same time. Lacks pace.

Grew into the game well once he started to win some duels and get on the ball more. Needs to back himself again, just seems a little sluggish and unsure at times but once he was locked in he did well 💪🏾
Relieved there were signs of life in the second half. Was worrying really
