Lol Hincapie is so **** in attack. Maybe when we're trying to see out a 1 goal lead, you bring him on. Imagine playing Hincapie and Trossard/Martinelli on one wing.

He's more a Gabriel replacement
Have we seen enough of him yet to know this? He looks more of a running/ crossing left back than a pass and controller (ie more Tierney than Zinchenko/MLS).

Do worry for MLS though - he should be the understudy for Zubimendi in midfield but we're not seeing that atm

Is he? I swear i saw compilations of him making some pretty decent wingback overlaps that directly led to goals. Myles is definitely better as an inverted back

It's up to him really.

With us signing Zubi and Ricky settling, I doubt he can ever become a starter here now...so does he want to be a very important squad player at a top team, or a starter at a club lower down the league.

Hope he stays for a bit at least, tbh.

Who's ahead of him in left back apart from Timber?

Timber us not a left back just played there because of his qualities on the ball to. MLS is a proper baller and he will have playing time i dont like Hincapie at LB to more of a centre back.

It’s a bit hard to tell someone who has played regular first team football and been excellent the whole way through that he now has to sit on the bench and be patient becasue he’s still young.

Wanted to see him start in midfield in the slavia game or Carabao Cup because it looks like where he might have the most potential. But also looks like Mikel is reluctant to play him there at the senior level since he hasnt tried it yet.

Very difficult for him to even be on the EPL bench after (and if) everyone is fit.

Look at all these who need to be accomodated (based on Sunderland starting 11):

Kepa, White, Mosquera, Hincapie, Havertz, Madueke, Nørgaard, Jesus, Martinelli, Ødegaard.

He is probably the only one who cannot play center back among all the defenders, so lots of competition there. Maybe a midfield role, but we're completely stacked there as well.

I’ve been saying this since the start of the season. When everyone is fit some big names won’t make the squad.

However I’m starting to suspect our injuries are perpetual in nature. So this will never be an issue in reality.

Its quite refreshing to have two fantastic options in the same position. I think more than anything else this is what has been transformative about the club.

Skelly is young and will obviously face adversity securing a staring position at a big club. This is the mentality that needs to be fostered over sympathy.

Mentality of champions!

Feel like MLS is getting some early Sterling treatment. Guy is still basically a newborn baby and the criticism he gets is wild.

The red card situation, the ridiculously unnecessary public comments from Tuchel about him? Very strange stuff.

These are unnecessary and strange conversations to even be having about him in the media. Weirdos.

I don't see MLS as either a natural understudy for Zubi or Rice. His ball carrying lends him to being better as left 8 but he doesn't have intensity or defensive ability to be a box to box defensive mid.

He looks like a Moussa Dembele regen but while he has fanboys - Sp**s was his highest level. LB is still his best route to the team but Hincapie and Calafiori's defensive strengths make them safer options.

Easy to forget how good he was last season, in big matches as well 1 v 1 against some of the world's best. Think he makes it here ultimately, even if it takes some time

Like to see him start tonight , Calafiori is being nursed recent weeks and hopefully not but with his history injury wise, lets keep players like MLS match sharp. Not throw him back in after weeks on the bench.

Big fan of him, super talent.

Big night for him. 🏆

I'm confident he's gonna repeat his performance against Atletico and boss Bayern through the middle and lock down whoever comes up against him on the wing.

Not ready, should be playing Carabao Cup games or get a loan.

Being good with the ball does not compensate for not knowing how to defend.

He was good with the ball and going forward.

He is playing as a defender.

Needs to learn how to defend.

too naif without the ball, needs more time. Loan or play him in the Carabao Cup. Big season to be gambling on a kid.

Bad day at the office for the lad, probably worse than PSG last year. Looked very rusty without the minutes tonight and came up against a good pair in Olise and Karl. I expect his performances to improve when they come.

Very very tough. Maybe time to use him as a backup midfielder?
He's barely played this season and came up against Karl, Olise and Laimer who all are in superb form. Yeah he was poor tonight, but that's on Arteta for me. Fullback is one of the hardest positions in football, and considering MLS is a midfielder by trade it's kinda harsh being thrown in against Bayern like that.

I do agree that he should get some more minutes in midfield though, but also should get some more minutes at LB.
