Neymar: Great Hope or Great Hype?

Neymars impact in Europe is superior than rooneys though. He has more goals and assists in less games and was a top scorer in the CL one season. Rooney never was
Rooney was a more complete player. More impactful on the pitch. Neymar will always be known for being Messi's sidekick on teams that would've been successful without him.

I like Rooney. But I think because we live in UK he’s been overrated in how we been bombarded with how great he was. Rooney against the elite in champions league looked poor. If Rooney was at Barca he would be Messi sidekick as well. He was Ronaldos sidekick and was the one who did his defensive work

Neymar was more decisive in attack and was the better scorer and creator

Nobody outside of England and premtards give a toss about Rooney. He’s the English Totti.

Neymar was better in basically every aspect of attacking. People say Rooney is completely because he was a workhorse and would track runners when Fergie asked him to cover for superior forwards like Ronaldo and Van Persie.

If Neymar stays at Barca I think he winds up being widely recognized as 3rd behind Messi/Ronaldo as best player of the era. Instead he won a bunch of league titles no one cares about and due to form/injury failed to really make an impact for PSG in late stage CL games. Unfortunately this means loads of dumb prem fans act like he was some Robinho tier player.

Also if you're Brazilian you have to win the World Cup if you want to be considered among the best.

Usually, yes. Post 2006, certainly.

Kaka won the Balon D'or and he's hardly put in best XI conversations.

Pre-2006, where over half of the NT comprised of players from the Brasileirão, you could become an all timer by folklore alone.

Marcelinho Carioca is an all-time great, but never won the WC. Others like that from that era.

It was mental with him. Injuries followed once he started taking less and less care of his body.

That fed into the mental aspect more and more and it because a cycle. Doesn't help he's surrounded by sycophants.

Even with Brazil, he got us into the semi-finals (momentarily) against Croatia, but you just know that if he had to make the same difference on a game that got us into a final spot, he'd crumble.

The Neymar period at Barcelona probably tops anything Rooney and most players have done.

Neymar gets under rated or downplayed. His image negatively hurts him I think.

I agree. He’s crazy underrated. I just find it crazy people believe in the era hazard was dominating the PL Neymar would somehow struggle

These guys are watching Trossard and Saka and creaming themselves. Imagine trying to raise doubts about Neymar.

This is my first time in this sub thread and I must say. Some of the comments on the first page are criminal and quite a be few posters have shown themselves to lack ball knowledge in retrospect when it comes to talent identification.

Still what’s interesting is that his legacy could have been so much better with a little more patience being displayed by him.

Still find it weird to see people rate Ronaldinho higher than him tbh. I don't see it. Ronaldinho played in the most stacked Brazilian team of all time in 02. He was never the main man for that team (Ronaldo and Rivaldo outperformed him constantly) and when he was (06) they greatly underperformed even though his squad was still one of the best in the world. His prime was great, but it was short, I'd argue probably shorter than Neymar's tbh.

Ronaldinho was also not more skillful with the ball than Neymar, in any capacity. AT BEST, Ronaldinho is on the same level skill-wise as Neymar (including dribbling, shooting, playmaking, etc), but that's not taking into account how ambipedal Neymar was. He's one of the most two-footed players you'll ever see, Ronaldinho is not in that conversation. Neymar was also way more consistent and efficient than Ronaldinho, even with all the skills and tricks.

Even not taking that into account, I don't see how you wouldn't consider Neymar the more polished dribbler. The one thing I could give to Dinho is that he's stronger than Neymar and obviously taller, but I think Neymar was more agile and probably had him beat on acceleration.

As far as Ballon D'Or, if Dinho's prime aligned with Messi's prime, he wouldnt have one either. Hell, Guardiola sold him the moment he started managing the team because he knew an 18 year old Messi was better and had to be the main creative force for that Barca.

I think Bale was better , not piling on Neymar, he’s a baller , but I think Bale was something else tbh , more dominant

Arsenal Quotes

I knew we were very different, that he (Ferguson) had a total hold over his club while at that time I was still more of a coach. I also recognised his huge qualities. He knew how to surround himself with the right people and didn't rest on his laurels when he was successful.
