Non-Arsenal Transfers: Summer 2025

They need a massive rebuild so we're going to see some proper disgusting stuff this summer.

Pretty funny how many people just forgot the 115 charges because of how poor they were this season but this will be a good reminder when they throw a combined £300m at new players this summer despite spending big every year.

Their 200m spend in January has already been brushed under the rug as well

It's ****ing disgusting isn't it? Arsenal getting trolled by official accounts saying that City will still finish above Arsenal in their "worst ever season" yet they just casually omit City dropped £200m in January while Arsenal has had the worst injury record in the PL.

****ing hope they get sent to the shadow realm.

Nah you missed my point grandpop. Not just talking about signing ‘young’ players. In fact I don’t mean that at all. I see footballers in 4 age categories: young players who are raw and haven’t gotten much football under their belt, players who have played a good amount of first team football with potential to go up a level (what I am talking about here), players in their prime, and players past their prime.

Signing young players who are still quite raw (something we have made a habit out of doing in the past) takes a lot of upskilling. It takes time and means your team isn’t good enough to win things in the short term. A problem we faced is by the time we had some top class players they would leave as the rest of the team was filled with more projects (Fabregas, Nasri, RVP), weren’t good enough to reliably win major honours. The time line of developing top players was way too long, makes it hard to align and actually build a top side.

But when you sign highly promising players in that 22-25 year old range, if you get it right you can be looking at a squad filled with top class players in the space of a couple years if managed right. You are tightening the time period. Its more conducive to a side being serious about winning big things soon, while not blowing money on finished articles on big wages.

Liverpool are the poster club for this. They did it with Salah, Mane, VVD, Alisson, Fabinho, Robertson, Firmino to varying degrees- signing them in a 2 year window. Then they won the PL, CL, FA cup and now another PL with most of that batch.
Fabinho and VVD were 26+ so was Alisson even if you didn't mention him. I don't think the players you raised are comparable either - Robertson was a brilliant under the radar pick up, Salah is obviously generational but him and Mane still needed Klopps roid regime to explode. Firmino looked well overpriced for a good while after he was signed and while Fabinho and VVD were good transfers they came for massive fees and were obvious to anyone as was their goalie.

Regardless I don't think the 22-25 age thing is something that Liverpool were even close to being the first to do, it's obviously the best age to get players in. Not buying that it's the only way to success either, Madrid for years kept winning titles with either old guys that were at the club for ages or teenagers.

Fabinho was 24 when he signed for Liverpool actually. Salah 25, Mane 24, Robertson 23, Wijnaldum 25, Firmino 23. I’m spot on man, you’ve spoken about things aside from my point. Talking about roid regime, overpriced at the time (which ended up being a bargain) and an incorrect age for Fabinho.

My point isn’t about how well known they are. In fact, people of that age bracket are pretty well known players, but there’s a level to go up in a new environment. Unknowns would usually be the first bracket I mentioned where players are much more raw.

Never said it was the only way to success. But it’s a great way to success for the reason I explained; timeline and hitting it big quickly if you get it right (while also having a long runway of success as we have seen with Liverpool).

Also, football has changed? You’re talking about things in the past (not surprised with you 😉) . The transfer window and the way it works has changed massively over the last 10-15 years. In the Banter Era we could sign these random unknown players from France uncontested for peanuts. These days there’s way more money in football and also across the PL. You’re getting really raw players going for crazy money.

The bracket of players I speak about are very well known in today’s world, and sometimes come expensive. But it’s the best age bracket to buy at imo (it’s where I think the highest frequency of signings a club like us or Liverpool should be making). If you have an immediate need for them in the starting XI that is.

As I mentioned above, look at how we elevated ourselves after the couple years of signing the likes of Ødegaard Gabriel and White. And they’re still young.

Yea fair enough on Fabinho. Still you posted an incorrect age for VVD and conveniently forgot about Alisson who's probably after Salah their most important signing.

Anyways my point you skipped over is Liverpool are not the first club to go after players just about to hit their prime.

Being a poster club doesn’t mean you’re the first or only club. But they did it with a lot of intent (was clear what they wanted to do), with a lot of success and longevity of success. They’re a fantastic case study into my point, and also the timeline thing is massive imo. Your whole team hit prime around the same age and can win things. Only drawback is sorting the squad out when they age; which they have done incredibly. You gotta let some leave and extend the best while rejuvenating the squad. They’ve been run extremely well.

Jamie Carragher’s wishlist signing una
The glaze that KDB gets from English media is unmatched.

He is very clearly past his prime and wouldn’t be able to play week in week out at a PL + CL side without his body breaking down.

MLS or Saudi is at his level fitness/body wise. Other than joining a weaker slower league like let’s say Serie A.

Arsenal Quotes

An Arsenal fan, when you finish fourth, will say, “Hey, we’ve been in the top four for twenty years. We want to win the league!”. They don’t care that Manchester City or Chelsea have spent 300 or 400 million euros. They just want to beat them.
But if you finish fifteenth two years running, they will be happy if you finish fourth after that.
