That's exactly what I observed and he actually linked up with hus team mates. The horrendous finish was one of many and that's my only criticism of him. Imagine if his brain can work as fast as his legs. Ooof.

Sprinting flat-out in a straight line actually made the finish harder; delaying his run would have allowed him to attack the ball with momentum. It looks like poor finishing, but the real issue was timing and spatial awareness.

The good news is this is coachable. The bad news it needs a lot of work and patience that I don’t think he’ll get here.

People saying he’s got talent, well no sh*t, he has played for Chelsea and Arsenal, I just don’t see him as effective in our system with the packed back 8’s we face every week. I think he would do very well at Villa or Man Utd, for example.

Duplicate post I made in the Nwanieri thread bc it’s shocking reading the amount of people on here that despite a title winning season are unwilling to accept that Arteta doesn’t care about technical ability on the ball if your not very good at anything else and he has proved that when you look at the technical superity of City and L‘pool. 70% athlete, 30% technical ability is way more value to have an a few positions esp as 2nd choice.

People hate to admit the main reason Ethan isn’t getting a look in is bc it is clear as day that Madueke is by far the superior athlete of the two by every metric and it’s not even close… his only better asset is technical ability on the ball. Madueke is arguably a better and more reliable athlete than Saka in some areas.

In the modern game and in an Arteta system being an athlete who is able to fit into our system and giving options to change strategy to affect the game it’s clear why he’s out of favour.

He is pretty bad defensively, doesn’t work particularly hard off the ball and doesn’t offer anything Dowman can’t.

Madueke is our only other attacker (Havertz) who can actually affect games during fast transitions on the counter against tired legs and let’s be honest whilst his end product sucks, he actually scares defenders and I’d rather someone who has attributes that fits our playing (defending from the front)

Lastly he seems like someone who really loves to play for the club and despite knowing his limitations doesn’t seem tonlose focus. I imagine most ppl on here wouldn‘t have the mentality to do their job and fight for their company knowing there’s this many people publicly telling them that they don’t want them there. And let’s not talk as if there is any correlation between value others put on you (price tag) and individual mentality.

Let’s hope for either an improvement in end product or an upgrade next season but have some perspective people

Good goal and movement on the third goal yeah. Nothing that would work in a PL or CL game but making the most of his chance.

If he can do this consistently we can't complain but he won't this is the problem specially when he up against better teams

He was good tonight and it seems like a switch was flicked vs Sunderland. Correct movement and decision making and he gelled with his team mates. I've not rated him at all but if he keeps this up, then he'll be a valuable squad member.

Just i wish he can be consistently good at final 3rd because doesn't matter if we criticise him if he figure this out and be more clinical in this area he'll be scary player because pace and dribbling is no issue he extremely good at both

Madueke has shown potential for a while, and always had the raw attributes.

People constantly calling him **** as if he's useless when he clearly is not, are just pushing agendas and following the general lazy narrative on twitter.
Yeh the criticism after Napoli was weird. He’s been fine so far. We saw so much of Madueke with Gyokeres at CF, Martinelli at LW, Mosquera at RB and Eze at AM last season. As a low IQ player you can’t be surrounding him with low touch players like that.

Earlier last season when we were playing more fluid football he was playing pretty solidly. We got tired of the stodgy football with no ideas in attack, we projected a lot of frustration to him because he’s erratic.

I want to judge him after seeing him play next to Havertz, Ødegaard and Rice/Bruno behind him at RCM. If Madueke can be the little bro of the team and get carried by highly technical smart players, I think his erratic but high risk // high reward play can be useful.
