Oleksandr Zinchenko: C’est Zinny

Kai and Viera aren’t good enough and Zinny is a bad fullback but good in buildup he has to be played at number 8. Now one said it is ideal but we upgrade two positions with this switch. It is the best of a bad world as we spent 105 million on that position to get two duds

Wasn’t that bad? He was very good. That goal line clearance was great, every bit as good and important as the Rice one.

He was the one who got dispossessed whilst dawdling on the ball that led to Brentford having that big chance in which Zinchenko atoned himself by making that goal line clearance. We need to watch the entire action as to why Brentford had that chance to begin with.

Think of Jorginho vs Sp**s. Our players need to be aware of their surroundings whilst on the ball, especially in our defensive third.

People are casually ignoring this. He did atone himself so won't be criticizing him for it but he has these moments too often

Lens heavily exploited Zinny's side in the away game, look at Wahi's goal in which Saliba himself could have also done better if he had watched the space (as Henry mentioned in the CBS Post match and on the podcast with Shearer/Linekar/Richards).

Now we got Lens on Wednesday at the Emirates, they'll be looking at to exploit that side once again.

Our left 8 must also do a better job in occupying the space that Zinchenko vacates, something Xhaka would do. So yeh Gabriel does have his work cut out for since he has to also play LB out of possession.

Quietly putting in great back to back performances this guy.

I remember us being concerned, but it seems to be a case where if we’re not dominating he will always look bad.

I think it helps that he's been playing fairly consistently since arriving here. At City he was always in and out of the side and when he first signed as a midfielder who had to be converted to his new LB role. That past year and a half almost has helped him develop into the role a bit more due to the consistent playing time he's got.

Had many bozo concentration lapses in the first half when he's losing the ball in possession like last week vs Brentford (he redeemed himself with that clearance).

Got punished with Wolves scoring from his stupid mistake.

Zinchenko cannot be relied upon in knockout games or tough away games.

Such a weird player, incredibly technically gifted and when he’s on is easily one of our most influential players.

Inconsistent though, and is always a brain fart away from costing us.
