Gunner Ossie - i think there is alot of reason for Lewdikris to backtrack.

We know Vieira is thinking of leaving, so it enters the realm of reality.

We will not accept 20 million over four years. We have experience dealing with Madrid and their payment schemes (see Anelka) and i am sure Dein does not want Arsenal to be dragged through that again.

I f****g despise footballers in some ways for the money they earn. Is 80k a week not f****g enough for you? How much difference is an extra 40k a week gonna make, you can't even spend that much money!

I'm sure if all the other Galactico's were on 80k, then he would accept that wage himself. What Paddy wants is parity- he wants to be valued in the same bracket as Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo, Beckham and Raul. For this reason, he wants the extra 40k.

Yeah, I could understand his reasons there, but I was more trying to make the point that I don't agree with the amount of money in football in general - see my thread :p

I think you're right, football has become a victim of it's own success in a way, it's a vicious circle, generally speaking, if a club wants the best players it has to pay the best wages.
Until FIFA organise a worldwide pay structure, perhaps based on the rugby union model, where a club is limited to paying a percentage of it's income as wages, then this situation will just keep on spiralling upwards.

Yes but adam the only thing we know for certain is that wenger wants him to stay and wants vieira to indicate weather this is so by staurday. All the rest of the stuff about galictico salaries, payment schemes, the money on offer , cleared lockers ,etc all just seems like guesswork.

Look at the stuff on pires's supposed conversation with vieira , which he later denied
Look at the supposed offer from madrid and wenger later saying we have had no offer from madrid.

People have almost taken to discussing media speculation as it is fact.

Maybe vieira has said nothing because he wants to make all those speculating about him leaving look like chumps for having such a long discussing about something which aint gonna happen.

Im quite happy to wait and see.

The media were being creative around his indecision. They got it wrong, and we recognised that (see the examples you gave) but now we know from Arsène that Patrick is seriously thinking about his future, and that we should anticipate an answer. This helps us to realise that the media did have a base to their stories, a truth, but we can also dismiss everything else they wrote!

You could argue that the media didn't have a truth, but created the truth through their own perseverance. I really, really, hope they didn't work this situation. That would just be a sad testament to their power.

I still have great hope he will make the right decision. For me - he will stay as he has a good head. Let's not see it get corrupted.

i notice that one of the names being touted as vieira's replacement Xabi Alonso has just had a bid of £10.7m accepted by Real Sociedad from Liverpool.
i was hoping we'd get him.

I think he wants to go, because as the club captain he should have killed this speculation ages ago.

I think the other players are aware of his mood.

His body language from the last few media clips seem very non-commital, but i could be wrong.

If he is going he should have gone right at the beginning cause we'd be rushed to find and settle in a suitable replacement.

There is life after paddy and there are a host of talented players ready to commit to us given the opportunity.

PS: Adam apologies over the "the spending the paddy money" thread its focus wasnt about whether vieira stayed or went but on other players that could add value to Arsenal if purchased.

Is it 100% certain? I read that it was, but then other sources say Sociedad rejected the offer.... and now expect... *drum roll please* Real Madrid to renew their interest in him.
Can't remember which article that was though.. I only read it 10 mins ago.

If it's true, bad luck for us. He seems to be most people's first choice to "replace" Vieira... who can we go for now?

"The English representatives showed interest in signing the player and the Spanish club expressed interest in selling the player," said a statement. Liverpool make Alonso bid

No bids have been accepted yet just that they have held talks over a possible move.

I honestly believe that Viera should leave.
I think that he is a is setting a very bad example for the youngsters in the club and too make it worse he is/was our captain.

There are millions of up and coming midfielders who would give both their balls to have what you have here at ARSENAL.

Thanks for the 8yrs of service Paddy but why don't u do the CLUB and us supporters a favour and leave.

im one of vieira's biggest fans, his been great for us, its just the timing of the transfer that i cant understand, im one of the supporters who think his better gone if he wants out, we'll surive, but one things for sure if he does leave he has made such an arse of himself by claiming his love of the club saying he wouldnt want to leave only 2 1/2months ago on the end of season arsenal dvd

There was this report which alleges that Paddy went to France to see a specialist in order to make sure his medical isn't messed by a niggling knee. If this was a true story, Then I myself would say "Safari Njeema" as in Swahili. Lets face it, Our team would lose some solidity in defence but our attack will ensure that people don't venture near our defence as we groom lots of knee-injury free kids.
Sol would take up the responsibility and organise the outings Paddy has been doing to mentain the family attitude the players have enjoyed.
Beside, We can do with 23m if the C**ts from Madrid pay according to the terms of the club. Surely, I would want Paddy to come out and say this
"I've been silent mainly because the media twists every statement but I'm totally committed to this project at Arsenal and nothing more" Otherwise we sell him and we just watch his A**se kicked when we meet them if only we could.
inally, the guy is killing our team with this crap of silence because now the media has embarked on using other player to get twisted statements :x
