Was my Man of the match last night. Just to clarify the deal is done, the loan terms ensure that. Berta been clever with PSR.

I think you have to give the club and Berta specifically massive credit for this one. Could have easily left us short like Edu, Ayto and others have done previously and have us relying on Calafiori’s sketchy injury history + an out of form MLS but he managed to weave his way around and secure us much needed cover with him and Mosquera to battle on all fronts.

People are slow to praise but very quick to criticise. Regardless of what your opinion of the window is so far the strategy of bringing in numbers seems to be working out as planned. Let’s see if it pulls through until the end of the season.

Yeah it was advantageous for both clubs because Leverkusen benefit from the sale being pushed into the next fiscal year after the Wirtz and Frimpong deals went on this year's books.
How does it benefit a club when it's a sale that's pushed back?

I guess with 3 year rolling averages for these financial rules it's better to have the money spread out, especially if you got a bonanza amount like they did with Wirtz

Your books look better for UEFA FFP with sales spread out across multiple windows and in Leverkusen's case the way this deal was structured apparently gets them out of a 20% sell on clause they would have had to pay to the club they bought him from because we haven't triggered the release clause. Just a case of both clubs being in a position for the loan deal to be mutually beneficial.

What’s interesting though is that Calafiori played a part in us seeing out the game in the middle/final third as opposed to our defensive third.

This isn’t a slight on Hincapie who’s been really good but it also highlights that Calafiori has his uses. Maybe as a sub for LW or LCM when we want to see out a game.
I think it is a slight on Hincapie tbh

Defensively strong but does not have the offensive attributes our system demands for that role

We looked much more assured once Calafiori came on + Kai's movement was also a significant upgrade over Gyok ... hard to determine causality of course, but my hunch is both replacements were beneficial

It’s definitely a learning point for him.

I think the PL is just so fast paced for these new defenders that they really aren’t comfortable showing pausa when needed and playing out from the back. I don’t think Hincapie and Mosquera are any less technically gifted than Gabi XL but they’re way less assured on the ball.

I think/hope it will come with experience. It doesn’t help they’ve been thrown straight into a title race where the thought of being lax on the ball and conceding a goal must be terrifying.

Brilliant again today when he came on. We've really needed him over this last couple of months and he's been fantastic.
