Not a big fan of this to be honest. Actually I loved it as everytime I needed to know what some player said, how he played if I didn´t see the game or what your opinion of him is, I just went to the thread of the player and that was all. There were threads I really wasn´t interested in, but that´s normal I guess. Now I will have to seek through all the threads in the Arsenal talk to find out what I need to know.

Also, Kami said it will make the forum easier to follow for those of us who have lives but I´m really curious how it will make this forum easier to read when every day, there will be at least 4-6 new threads, it will surely take less time to read it all. ;)

I can´t understand how you can admit this but well, I will have to get used to it, right...

Really enjoyed the simplicity of of players threads...Had a bit of historical value as well...So if I understand this correctly, there may be topics like "how to correct Ade's offside", etc... And if I just want to post a comment a two about a specific player, then where do I go for that? I am not as dumb as that sounds...It's just that old expression comes up, Why fix it when it aint broke?

to be honest, we could have both worlds combined together.

people can start more topics, and we can still keep the players section. it would be fair enough

we tried to have people start new topics but it was always easier to just dump everything in a player thread. the way things were going, we might as well just reduced the entire forum to one big arsenal thread.

we're trying to make this forum the lively place that it used to be a few years back before it got inundated with crappy posters, which forced us to institute the lobby and promotion procedures. now that it looks like we've got the quality back, we're trying to loosen things up instead of organizing everything to death. bring back the banter, the debates, the ideas. it was getting a bit stale seeing the same threads everyday for years and years. the fact that RC8 said he never bothered with any of the threads in the players subforum speaks for itself.

our other main goal is to find a way to identify good posters in the lobby earlier and get them promoted. i know having to slog through the lobby is a big deterrent to start posting here. i probably wouldnt have bothered. so thats something we need to fix somehow.

What this place needs is me to post more posts, but unlike a few years back where I was on truly blistering form, my responsibility in the work place has magnified to such an extent where I dont have so much time to offer such quality.

But I'm a man, and I'm willing to shoulder some of the blame for the demise of Arsenal-Mania.

still....might have been nice to let the forum members know you lot were thinking of this- or even see what the wider consensus was - not in a referendum or anything, just to help guide your decsision, given this is such a massive change.

i've got an open mind but cant help thinking this will cause way more problems than it solves.

we will go on to create at least one thread for each player as soon as there is a bit of news about them or significant performance anyway- and lots of smaller discussions will mean more duplication of arguments and make the course of debates be harder to follow because htey will be spread across a number of threads, it will not jsut be a case of scrolling back a few pages of the thread- that is if the majority of posters- can be bothered to search through 6 or 7 different threads to see where what they want to say would best fit- it will make the forum experience much more labour intensive.

you can turn one thread into 6 but it will still be the same posters spouting the same opinions- and if you think it wasnt lively before i dont think this will help

anyway- just voicing my reservations...hope to say i told you so but am prepared to accept it back if suddenly we all start having orgasms at how fantastic the new forum experience is! (not being disrespectful or nout!!)

If anything, please make a subforum for each player, so you can have 100 threads in each of those, because the sheer volume in the main ArsenalTalk page is going to do my head in.

The case should be closed with that post.

The player threads well dull, boring, lifeless etc. etc. etc.

I really don't get how anyone will miss them. Each to their own i guess.

I´m not going to start *****ing and complaining of how it was much better before as I know I can´t change it but I just have to quote this. Yeah, the fact that one of many, many people coming to this site never bothered with any of the threads in the players subforum really speaks for itself, amazing...

You do realise that the forum was always like this only a year ago?

Yes, it means that all the issues I was not interested in were concentrated in one place... now they are flooding the part of the forum I am interested in.

I like to talk about Arsenal and give my opinion about things... all player discussions always end up in debates between player lovers and haters who, after pretending they know more than Wenger, decide that next game IS the game where the player will be judged for good... then after that game discussions always end up in debates between player lovers and haters who, after pretending they know more than Wenger, decide that next game IS the game where the player will be judged for good... then...

Now we are doing the same thing but dividing it into different threads.

I think it definitely has a bright side to it, and I like variety... I'm just not sure It'll be as easy to participate and follow in the threads that I do find interesting as it was before.

On on a handful of porn forums I log onto, they use a rating system for threads - one to five stars.

Works well, as I know to only look at the "Pics of my ex-girlfriend" threads which have atleast half a star or more out of five. Saves me wasting time on the crappy threads.

Mate, course i do. As soon as the new design/layout of sections was changed the place got a little tedious. It was hard keeping up with threads.

    Make that two

The player threads bored the **** out of me. Same debates, same opinions, same posters generally. Nothing wrong with those who engaged themselves in them, or their opinions, but it seemed like one big circle going round and round with the same debates and posts. I hope that this way more people are willing to discuss worthy news or topics about the players instead of going over the same points after each game. I personally felt that sometimes the player threads were just a place where many members continued their debates and only commented on topics/news/events in the passing.

I think it may take some getting used to, and at the beginning I think we may see some overlapping in certain threads but I think in the long run we'll all get the hang of it and we'll see the benefit in doing it.

Tam, but the only thing that locking the player threads changes is that now instead of discussing the issues that concern our players in the player threads, we now do it in Arsenal talk. Its not like the subjects of discussion are going to change, people are still talking about the same things, jsut now we do it in new threads. For instance the new Walcott, Vela, van Persie, and Eboue threads in Arsenal talk, those are all things we've been discussing for a while now in the player threads, so its not like having locked the player threads has changed anything in that aspect. In my opinion, the only effect its had, is disorganizing the forum and making it significantly harder for someone to find a thread that is of interested to them.

thank you thank you thank you, this was one of my biggest gripes about this entire forum!!!!!! You never knew what was being posted, and you had to sift through hundreds of posts and pages to find out!

Yes, but they're not going to become threads that are 150 pages long hopefully. Once the discussion goes off topic, hopefully the mods will lock it.

I think we should move all player related topics in the arsenal forum to the players topic, threads like, who's captain, and the defensive crisis should've been in the arsenal talk long time ago, and if the 'crappy posters' want their players threads back, i dont see why should'nt give it to them.
