Premier League 17/18: Matchday 7

Mainly because of the cowardly manager, Moyes signed him knowing full well he had his best moments further forward yet played him as a DM every single time where looked clumsy.

Fellaini is a genuine threat in the opposition box, glad we have a manager that's not scared to use him properly.
He's also a bit of a c**** -- something I feel like they've lacked since their pomp. Definitely a useful squad player at this point.

3 of their next 4 games in the league are against Liverpool away, Sp**s at home, and Chelsea away.

If they manage to get through those fixtures relatively unscathed, they'll be in good stead, with two of the harder away games on the fixture list out of the way.
Agree that'll be such good test

Think they'll get 5 points.

You have to look at it from Moyes' viewpoint though.

How could he walk into the club and deviate from the 'United Way' by playing Fellaini behind the striker to lump balls at?

Being on RedCafe, you know full well how the nuffies on that forum would have reacted to that.

There were times where LVG did use him in that way. I think it was during that good run of form in his 1st season where you guys played a midfield 3 of Herrera, Carrick and Fellaini. He was probably too embarrassed to continue doing it

Mourinho however is a man without any hint of shame when it comes to the football he plays. Fellaini as a target man to lump balls at is nothing new for Mourinho.

It's not his fault, the tone was set at Palace before he came.

Lugged with players he probably wouldn't have bought himself and forced to cope with injuries to two of his most potent attacking weapons in Bentekers and Zaha.

...

Then why buy him in the first place if the concern is 'United way' and all that jazz? He only has himself to blame for that. Marouane was his panic buy and he didn't even have the balls to back him. Don't buy him if you are playing him in positions that will not only make you as a manager look bad but allow the player to look limited.

Not that I even agree with an alleged United way, we've won titles ugly with Sir Alex as well which seems to slip the heads of some people post-Ferguson. But that's an entirely different argument.

I wouldn't say we're lumping the ball forward right now, Marouane is just getting at the end of some very good crosses because he's being played in a more advanced position. I don't have any issues with how Van Gaal used him but playing him next to Rooney and Carrick in midfield was one of the most cumbersome approaches I've seen. At least now, we're using 3 attacking midfielders out of Rashford, Martial, Mkhitaryan, Mata, Lingard.
