Because Emery took over a club that had finished 5th, then 6th in the two seasons prior.

He hasn't taken over a top 4 club.

Expectations under Wenger were based on standards set in his previous years. Expectations under Emery are based on Wenger's last few seasons.

He'll finish 6th and it'll be no worse than what Wenger would have done (and indeed the position Wenger left us in anyway).
