Really enjoyable season. Came out of pre-season firing and played some really electric stuff throughout. Would never have predicted what was to come at this time last year.

Same as everyone else I'm sure, to be gutted to miss out on the title but at the same time really grateful to be even in with a shout at it. Unfortunately we've came up against a side who are in the process of Bayerning the Premier League.

Not expecting this every season but hopefully we can push on and stay in the top 2 or 3 positions in the league going forward whilst giving a good account of ourselves in the CL. We're relevant again which has been the most important thing for me.

Essentially we need teams to improve enough to beat City and us to improve enough to beat them (and City once).

Quite surprised by this. Firstly by the fact Utd actually improved more this season than we did? Kinda takes some glow off ngl. Secondly that second table, eesh, bottom half since start of April. Such a shame.

The Specialist in Bottling notched 34 points second half of season we played Europa league football. In Arteta’s reign of error he has had one good FA cup and one good half season in league. But Chairmen Arteta has so brainwashed the masses he has everyone thinking he is young Pep

Was listening to a Man Utd mate's unhinged rant about City yesterday. He cited local councilors paid off, their sudden run of good form after the enhanced pre-world cup dope test regime ended and parking potential young superstars in obscure clubs around the world.

I didn't know what to make of it tbh, perhaps he's been on the internet for too long. Or maybe....

You could’ve used this thread to put down Rice but no you guys had to go at our own player smh.

I’ll never get this forum needing to put down Arsenal players to hype mediocre guys. First the Rice thread and now here, you’d think we’re still finishing 8th place.

With the way we crumbled at the end of the season, I think it’s fair to say that none of these guys are safe until we put this behind us.

All about context for me. The above is a complete violation and not something I’d settle for 😭 but each to their own.

That picture is obviously misleading because Man City were close to us all season, not like we went clear and then they caught up. All it takes is one or two slip ups and they're gonna take over. You'd have to get 95 points to beat them.

I feel like some of you lot preferred when Arsenal finished 5-8th with plodders like Lacazette spiritng at walking pace out of breath.

This was match week 21 before we played Everton at Goodison Park which was a winnable game. It wasn’t like we were playing a peak Barcelona or Real Madrid, it was Everton:

Besides the Brentford game which I understand was out of our hands. You can’t be losing to City at the Emirates if you want to win the title, the minimum we should have done is not lose. Liverpool, Sp**s and Utd who all had “poor seasons” managed to do the business against them at their own ground and get all 3 points. We then crumbled and showed our naivety after having leads against West Ham and Liverpool whilst also letting a woeful Southampton team come to the Emirates and be 3-1 up. This is a team who only picked up 25 points this season and lost their next 5 games after getting a point against us.

It was all in our hands and City wouldn’t have been able to do anything at all, had we kept our cool and done our job.

What's this table supposed to mean? We were 5 points ahead and they had a game in had so realistically it's only 2. Telling us how many days spent on top of the table is disengenous.

I'm not disgareeing we collpased at the end but not like City weren't neck and neck with us the whole time, most people predicted they would eventaully overtake us and they did. They're objectively a much better team than us.

The table shows that we would have been 8 points ahead had we won our game in hand, that’s more than enough leeway to go on and win the title especially in the second half of the season. I don’t really see 8 points as neck and neck but we couldn’t capitalise and had a piss stain down their leg when the lights were the brightest. A more experienced team and manager would have kept their cool in that situation.

Anyways, I do agree that they’re a better side than us but that’s not how football works. I don’t buy any of these excuses unfortunately.

No the table shows we were 5 points ahead with a game in hand, only way we'd go 8 points is if we had 2 games in hand or if they lost their game in hand so that's redundant there's no 8 points.

You're lying if you're saying Man City weren't neck and neck with us. A more experienced team and manager went against them numerous times in Liverpool and look at how that ended up.

Liverpool weren’t in the same situation as us, so it’s hard to draw comparisons.

2021/22 when City won the title with 93 points, they were leading the race and were top for 168 days. Liverpool had to play catch up throughout the majority of the season, so it wasn’t in their hands. Not comparable at all.

2020/21 this was the season when Liverpool finished 17 points behind Man City and Ole finished second. City had a 82 day winning streak which lasted between December to March.

2019/20 when Liverpool won the PL. They were top for 37 of the 38 rounds during the season and were only off the summit for seven of the 352 days of the campaign. An experienced manager and squad kept their cool and didn’t let City back into it by widening the gap.

2018/19 City won the league by a point and this was probably the only season you were referring to but even looking at it, they were literally level for most parts of the season. Liverpool were top of the league for 141 days of the Premier League season, compared to City's 125. I would say this was more unlucky than anything as Liverpool took it right to the wire, so there was nothing an experienced manager or squad could do in this season. City had 98 points and Liverpool had 97 which meant it was left until the final day of the season.

2017-18 Liverpool were not in the title race. Centurion year.

Are we looking at the same table bro? 🤣 5 points ahead with a game in hand, indeed.

The table above I posted was after game week 21 when we beat Man Utd. Like you said, we were 5 points clear with a game in hand over Man City. The following game week City lost to Sp**s and we had a chance to go 8 points clear of them with a game in hand giving us enough room to make errors but we failed to capitalise on the chance we had and lost to Everton at Goodison Park.

Anyways competing with City for the title isn’t healthy. I don’t think I’d be able to do another season of that tbh.

They weren in the same situation as us in competing with Man City for a title, that's what I mean. It's no failure to lose out to them, not like we were clear and completely collapsed they were right next to us all season and people were saying they would take over us anyway.

Well I was just talking about what I see in that picture. All I'm saying is we were never that far from Man City, they were neck and neck with us all season.
