Premier League 2024/25: Our Title Charge

If I was Salah the reaction of the fans/media over when he beefed with Klopp would have made my mind up for me.

Guy has brought success to these man that they didn’t deserve, and then they dropped him like that without any attempt to unpack what was happening.

I’ve seen loads of players have it out with their manager and it gets excused as “of course he’s unhappy to be subbed, it’s only natural” etc but when a guy with the first name Muhammad does it then knives come out quick.

I missed this post, but yes very typical and I was disappointed. There's never been a single report of unprofessionalism throughout his career where as we've seen Klopp be a volatile prick numerous times.

The same would happen at Arsenal though 🤷‍♂️

Looking at the fixture, it was always going to be very difficult for us to lead the table.

Look at games played against top 8 of last year
A: Villa, Sp**s, City, Newcastle, (Chelsea next game)
H: Liverpool

Compare that with Liverpool:
A: Man Utd, Arsenal
H: Chelsea, (Villa next game)

And City:
A: Chelsea, Newcastle
H: Arsenal

And Chelsea:
A: Liverpool, Man Utd
H: City, Newcastle, (Arsenal home)

After next week, we only have Man Utd (H) left from the top 8 while our competitors still have to play 3 or 4 more games against top 8. It is crucial that we win our game against Chelsea next week such as that we don't fall back even more. I hoped to stay within 3 points after our difficult run, 5 points was also okay, 7 is already too much, 10 is too much to bridge.

Exactly, this is crucial for perspective. After the Chelsea game our difficult away games are Brighton (GW 20), United (GW28) and Liverpool (GW 36). Of course there are tricky ones like Fulham and Palace, but we really should beat those easily.

Then you look at Liverpool, they have to go to Newcastle, Sp**s, Bournemouth, Man City, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Brighton, along with tricky games at Fulham too. City have had a tougher schedule then Liverpool too, but also a tougher schedule than us.

It's the same as last year, when Liverpool supposedly would win it for Klopp. They fell off, and they will again this year. The only relevant thing will be if we're going to start smashing teams at home that we're supposed to beat or if we're going back to the Arsenal of old and drop points where we shouldn't.

City will get a point deduction. Liverpool will glide down the table. Go on a run and we will be there.

Sp**s are just two points behind us and have a much better goal difference

Sure, we stumbled through a difficult schedule and the future schedule favors us. The major concern is how we are playing. If we play football as we have, our schedule is not relevant, we’ll continue to stumble. We need a behavioral turnaround as soon as possible regardless of the schedule.

I did not include the CL within these fixtures: 2nd and third placed of Atalanta & Inter away with leader PSG at home. Only easy game was Shaktar.

Given the injury record, I just want us to get as much points as possible.

If we keep our win rate with Ødegaard from last year we’d be on track for around 84-86 points.

While that’s isn’t likely to be enough it does show there’s some weight to not throwing in the towel.

Full article in the Raya thread, but the tl:dr is last season Raya made 45 saves, 10 games in this season he's already at 29.

Whilst we have had two (or more?) 10 man games which adds to the shots on goal, I know many have theorised that Partey has made us softer at the base of midfield compared to Rice.

Whilst I think there are many factors leading to the increased shots, the Partey theory does appear to have some merit as last season that central zone was 18%. The left side remains porous compared to our right side despite the summer recruitment.

It could even out once we start to see more of our favourable fixtures and perhaps it's too soon to draw any conclusions.

For what it’s worth @Macho - I do think the defensive solidity you lose by switching Rice to Partey at 6 could be overcome by actually utilising Partey’s progression strengths by setting the team up to attack quickly and centrally.

But we’re actually trying to play terror ball with Partey at 6 and it makes no fkn sense and my eyes hurt.

Rice is clearly defensively superior to Partey, he is clairvoyant when it comes to danger.

I just think it's worth noting
- 10 men,
- Trossard instead of Ødegaard
- Partey has been playing RB quite a bit too.

We agree anyways - if we aren't going to utilise Partey's ability to fizz the ball out from the back quickly, then Rice should be the 6.

This is where Mikel tries have his cake and eat it too playing Partey fullback just like he did Xhaka.
