Anyone else feel really disconnected from the club atm? Love Arteta and always have done, even when we were finishing 8th etc.

However, something and I’m not exactly sure what it is has left me feeling very disconnected to this club right now.

Part of me thinks a major reason for this the stuff we play is so far from what I grew up on with Arsenal ( started following in 2009 and not saying I want to go back to this and I do massively appreciate the mentality and culture MA has implemented at the club ) I do find it difficult to watch. It is so rigid and the gaffer is unbelievably stubborn.

I was watching highlights from 22/23 today and I have never adored an Arsenal team so much. Attacking football, young squad, extremely likeable players. I find the current squad much harder to relate to / love.

I still go to most games and watch every game religiously but I desperately want to refind my spark with Arsenal but there’s something with this squad / setup I can’t get on board with.

I do think there’s other factors at play here, increased expectations, decline in atmosphere from a few years ago, unbearable online discourse over certain players etc but I believe the above is a major factor in this. I don’t want this post to come across the wrong way, I am delighted we are one of the best teams in the world and i am desperate for us to win it is just bugging me majorly that I’m worried it won’t mean as much to me as it would have a few years ago as it will be the first I see us lift.

You ever run into someone who complains about everything, even when things are going well? Are they to be pleasant to be around?

That's you.
Well you can buy a skirt and hula hoop and be a cheerleader and please people. I am fine being cynical and grumpy.

I empathise with your views, you're certainly not alone. Some of my mates who've been up-and-down the country for years following Arsenal have taken a step back citing similar reasons.

I firmly believe that if we get it over the line this season some of these issues - atmosphere, freedom of expression on the pitch - will slowly ebb away. A lot of it, certainly in my case, is pent up frustration and trauma associated with the recent near misses and over-analysis of our great club, which I take too much to heart. It's all consuming and will continue to be so long as we're this close to winning.

Ultimately, we've been very lucky to witness exciting football teams under both Arsène Wenger and Arteta. Over the past 20 years, however, these were teams that ultimately weren't good enough to sustain a title challenge or compete whatsoever. If we needed to become a bit more boring, structured and stubborn to finally get a big one over the line then that is a compromise I think we're all more than happy to accept. It can be tough to watch but so long as we're singing and dancing on the streets of Islington in May I won't care.

I was completely and utterly disconnected from the Club around the late stage Wenger period, just an overwhelming feeling of apathy.

Some of it is a mentality thing for the players, managers and us as fans. We and they can't go into matches against weaker opposition just expecting to arrive and turn weaker sides over.

Take Forest, Dyche knows how to drill his side in a low block, he had 9 days to prepare from his last match. Man City only beat them with a 90th minute goal.

None of this is an excuse for us not beating them, we should have done.

But every match in this league needs to be taken seriously and given 100% effort and concentration, we can see that from us nearly dropping points against Wolves.

As fans we shouldn't be arrogant and just expect to arrive and beat everyone, we have to earn it.

It might be a trauma response. We're now so close but have been hurt so many times that we need to be a bit anesthetized to endure the tension of this run. You can also feel a bit of anxiety from the top (Arteta) and he projects it a bit to the players.

We played some electric stuff when expectations were low, but are prone to chuckle when the ocassion gets too big. We bottled top 4 to Sp**s, multiple stupid Europa League exits, knocked out from the cups early, chocked vs Bayern 2 years ago in CL... It takes it's toll.

My prediction is if we manage to get it over the line, Arteta and the team will relax and we'll again see some beautiful stuff. But if we don't, then we're fecked.

100% thing this is part of it aswell. I started to feel it towards the second half of 23 /24. I think 22/23 hurt me so much i have mentally checked out afterwards. Sounds sad, but true.

Yeah I get that. There were certainly much worse things about the club at that point that some slightly conservative football.

Maybe it’s a personality thing. I need us to be **** to feel some sort of jeopardy in every game 😆.

I think part of it is we reached peak connectiveness, vibes, positive feelings the past couple of seasons but fell short

Now, even though we're doing better, I think the emotional energy was expended previously

nopes... left the schoolyard a long time ago. hope you will soon.
You obviously did not leave the schoolyard since you still throw your toys out of the pram every time we draw.

After we drew with Liverpool, you were saying our transfer policy is garbage because we didn't get Haaland over the summer. We were never gonna go for him, just like we aren't going to win every match. You need to get a grip on reality.

Different team different kind of bottle though. Invincibles had already won 2 titles by then and is a proven quantity in an era that only has 2 horses every year.

I have full confidence we will win the league this season, but my main concern is that we are winning the league not because we are good, but the others are poor. It certainly looks this way and I can't see how we are going to challenge for the CL unless we find a winning attacking formula in the team.

I also do understand that people don't have faith in the team led by Arteta as we have consistently disappointed the fanbase over the past 5 years, be it clutch semi matches, clutch time for top 4, to title challenging. We have always only faltered from our goals. It will take us winning to give people confidence.
In 89 we hadn’t won the league since 71 - titles are rarely processions - that has been a post oil club thing - usually it’s at least a two horse race. Mostly and at some point the competition just falls away. You can only judge it at the end of the season. You won’t find a Leicester fan who talks down their achievement because the other teams that year were poor - Liverpool were given a virtual free ride last year, as matters turned out.

It’s the internet era now, where everyone moans about everything and blathers on for likes and subscriptions, 24/7.

I am not taking a swipe at you but for the life of me I genuinely can't understand how *anyone* can connect with feeling this way.

A Premier League season has its ups and downs, we just came off a 5 game winning streak not too long ago. We were poor vs Liverpool and we should have beaten Forest, we created enough to win that game. Thankfully our rivals actually lost so we gained ground.

What's going on is that many Arsenal fans want this title to be a procession and wrapped up by the end of January which is absurd. A lot of the fanbase need to get a grip and come to terms that there will be up and down periods for a while yet.
