Premier League 22/23: Gameweek 32 (April 21-23)

Game Over

I don’t know who’s signing Kane for 100M.

Utd probably but still.

United probably the only option. Newcastle maybe? If they finally decide to go nuts being able to offer CL football. Stranger things have happened.

Harold will either have to get ugly to force the move or give up on the top Premier League scorer dream. Bayern will be looking for a centre forward.

Daniel Levy has to be up there with the worst owners in the league. Sp**s had a ridiculous team in those later Poch years but he refused to spend anything to get them over the line. If he'd properly backed the team financially back then it's quite possible they would've won several trophies, including the league.

Now look at them. Aimlessly flailing around, completely wasting the years of their greatest ever player with no direction. Unreal how much Levy has ****ed them.

Before Levy they were at the same level as West Ham, since he’s gone there they’ve established themselves a CL level club without oil money. He’s done wonders for that club.

His management of their wagebill and how he gets their best players to sign long contracts on relatively low wages is nothing short of miraculous. Having said that he’s been doing an awful job for them in the last 4-5 years and his failure to back Poch thankfully stopped them pushing on from a very strong position.

Is it Levy or ENIC that failed to back Poch?

But do take your point though, they’ve spent but spent poorly in the last few years, and suppose Levy is responsible for the execs that make the football decisions.

Still though, people need more perspective on Sp**s and his time there. Historically they’re not a big club.

They will probably get Conference League qualification this season, which their fans will look at as a massive failure.

But in reality that's a decent season for Sp**s, tbh... demanding anything more than any level of European football is a bit naive/greedy from their fans.

They have only been a regular Champions League club recently because we **** the bed in that time, but we are past the 2016-2022 period so not much they can do really...proper deluded bunch.

Unless they become a oild club like City/Chelsea I don't know what their fans expect, they have never really done anything for those expectations to be justified but blame Levy anyway...like pre money Citeh and Chelski, just a meh club to be honest.

I mean I get they’d like to win the odd cup and see some decent football, but before Levy they won F all as well, maybe an FA cup once every 10 years or so…

Was it 18/19 or whenever it was they reached the CL final that they made 0 transfers that season. They were playing some really good football under Poch thank Allah they didn’t back him and that wave died out. For a while it did look like they were building something special and with some solid backing and a few good transfers who knows what they could have done.

Both things can be true here. His unwillingness to invest, to the point where they literally didn't invest a single pound in the summer of 2018, has resulted in the mess we're seeing now, combined with the complete lack of a coherent plan shown by them going from Poch to hiring "win now" type of managers in a seemingly desperate attempt to get silverware.

Their recent success and CL status has largely been propped up by an incredible amount of luck. They bought a guy they though was a LB and he turned into one of the greatest attackers in PL history, and that turned into a massive cash injection. They followed that up with Harry Kane breaking through and becoming one of the greatest PL strikers ever.

There was some smart buys along the way of course, don't wanna say it was all luck, but stumbling into Bale and then seeing Kane emerge straight after selling him is one of the most fortuitous 1-2 punches in PL history.

Point here is they basically had their version of Fabregas/RVP in terms of talent, but instead of not having the ability to spend, Levy chose not to do it, and now they're left with nothing to show for that incredible talent.

Not sure I agree Sp**s have never been a really top club like Man U, Liverpool & Us.
They were always next level like Everon, Villa & Newcastle . Difficult when u add Oil money & Chelsea spending to stay at the top.
They have overachieved in the last few seasons in the league, their natural position is top 6-8.
Before Levy they often finished lower than 8th but may have won a cup?
Under Levy they have numerous top 4 finishes & reached an ECL final. Who ever thought they could reach a Champions League final when he took over?

They have comfortably established themselves as a top 6 prem team & built a new stadium up against Oil money.
I'm sure Everton ,Villa & Newcastle would swap the last 20 odd years with them.

They need to get the right manager in & refresh the squad. I do think they are now on a downward turn as we were a few years ago when we dropped to 8th.

Conte reached his aim last season with top 4 but it was short term thinking.
