What's there to over think? It's quite obvious that teams have more money across the league than ever before, so they invest in better players and defenders while also being way more organised where every team in the league has a structured press, and structured low blocks, mid blocks and high blocks. This means it's harder now to impact the game as an individual because players get quickly crowded out. That's not withstanding that players are stronger athletically.

I mean this is your average PL defender back in the day ffs.

The same club that is about to get relegated has a World Cup winner and the fastest defender in the world. It's night and day.
You’re chatting bollocks.

Same club also had European Cup winner with Germany starting for them 26/27 years ago.

“Fastest defender in the world”. You heard yourself? You mean an athlete who can’t defend is about to get his team relegated.

Same club also had Sol Campbell, who pisses all over every CB on the planet today. Great one buddy.

Talk about getting sidetracked by Chris Perry and completely missing the point. There's nothing about the first paragraph that's untrue.

I didn’t get sidetracked, we’ll just go around in circles with your first point and nobody has energy for that on a Sunday night.

You got caught out with Chris Perry though, when a German international winner was playing for the same club as was the best of the best in Sol Campbell.

I didn’t. I was talking about your average PL defender back then being worse than today and used Chris Perry as an example. Sol Campbell doesn’t represent your average PL defender. Sure - you have a point about Sp**s defence as a whole might not have been that bad but I was talking about the entire rest of league outside the top teams, not just Sp**s.

This is BS.

The league always had more money vs the rest of the world. In fact during the days when the league spent the most money we had City and Pool finishing close to 100 points.

Mid block low block has always been there it's not something new. The excuses people conjure out for us is really hilarious

You seen the West Ham team that got relegated in 2002/03?

Far more internationals and quality players than this years team.

Newcastle 2009 as well. A team expected to challenge for European places went down with the likes of Barton, Owen, Coloccini, Enrique, Given, Martins, Duff, Gutierrez, Geremi, Butt, Viduka etc.

Side note I am also shocked Leicester is getting relegated again. Their team at their disposal should be at least challenging for promotion. Many PL level players and good internationals.

Sometimes when the manager sucks and players loses morale no team is too good to go down

Didn’t the last Newcastle team to go down have Wijnaldum as well?

My post was in reference to watching City and Doku in particular - but also the general lack of goals across wingers in the league. So no.

Not it hasn't - Serie A was the richest League in the world back in the day and most of the teams outside the top teams were super strong. That's why there was a common saying that goals in Italy counted higher.

The tactics that City and Pool used to claim those points - every team employs them now. These tactics were employed by the best teams in the past but not the mid and lower teams to the same degree as you see today. Why else is everyone complaining now that Pep has ruined football?

Thanks God Man City are rubbish and will be exposed by Mikel and the boys next week.

Right?

Have you learned the story about Marshall attack in chess? Its a variation in Ruy Lopez invented by Frank Marshall. He had spent years on developing this aggressive and tactical attack to use it against one particular chess player, Jose Raul Capablanca.

Maybe we have been playing like **** this year because we have been saving everything we have for this game? Wow wow wow. Here it comes!

To finish the story. Capablanca refuted all tacticals moves Marshall made and eventually won the game.

@A_G @Sapient Hawk @MutableEarth devoted chess fans of AM tagged as they could be interested to work on their Ruy Lopez.

Something Arsenal players extremely sucks at.

I agree with Pep there.

Our tactics may be negative but we were good at them or at very least effective. That really hasnt feel like the case after new year.

Mind you I have spoken about we should be aiming for some tactical shake up just to try to get the players into different mindset.

Tactics alone don't win you games if your players can't do s**t. Its been clear for awhile that our players dont like play under pressure and Arteta also fail to get them into right mindset Pep however knows how to make them preform in late stage of season always

Biggest bottle job of all time has to be Real Madrid in 2003/04. 8 point lead with 12 games to go and they ended up 4th having lost 6 of their last 7. And that's Zidane, Ronaldo, Figo, Beckham and co.
Yeah, that was wild. The moment they went out of the Champions League against Monaco they completely gave up.

Tbh people dont talk about Real Madrid or United being bottle jobs because they consistently win trophies every year. If we won last 2 years or even just one time in 22-23, nobody will laugh at us as bottle jobs.

To not win the league for over 20 years and then consistently shat the bed when the going gets tough to bottle it completely and finish 2nd, can't blame people for laughing so badly when it inevitably happens again.

Still time to change it but all signs are pointing to a familiar ending for us
