Sounds good to me. For years England has been the only big European league that hasn't had a wibter break. About time I say. Still, I do love football played over Christmas. I think the break should start after the 3rd round FA Cup ties and finish on bout the 20th Jan.

FOotball during the xmax break MAKES xmas. It's also a tradition for the games to be played durin xmas so the much needed break should come around when you proposed

If theirs a two week break does this mean their will be more mid-week games or will the season be stretched out ?

we'll just have to wait and see. And as there is no Euro tournament or World cup in 2005, that's the best time to implement this winter break. If they had to stretch it, they would

It's bollocks. I don't give a flyer about the national team, which is the only place the benefit's going to be.

They'll start the league earlier (can't start it later because of Euro/World cups every other year) which just buggers up summer holidays even more for the fans. Typically, it's the fans that are going to suffer.

A flaming pathetic idea from an organisation that doesn't give a monkeys about fans.

The winter break will do the players good, especially the foreign players who are unable to be with their families at Christmas.
Though admittedly i will miss the xmas fixtures. 2 weeks no footy?
its bad enough from May - August!
guess we being a bit selfish tho!

It's not at christmas though, they're talking about it being in January.

Also, I don't think we're being selfish wanting them to play when it's good for us. They do seem to be rather well paid for it.

And finally, how is this really going to stop players being so knackered. They'll still have the same number of games. Still the same number of internationals. They'll just start the seaon earlier so they'll have less of a summer break (and bearing in mind the problems players that play in the Euro/World Cups have with having to come to pre-season late virtually no break). Bloody stupid.

anyone think of the correlation with the ever-increasing fixture list, winter breaks and English teams winning the CL? (or should i say NOT winnimg the CL)... English teams cram more fixtures in, no break, burn themselves out for the end of the year.. therefore, dont have enough juice in the tank for the CL later stages....

this may be a good thing.. of course, i hope we can change that "rule" this year BEFORE the winter break takes effect.....

we may have playing the most matches at that point as well, but how MANY matches was that? was it 60+ like they have to play now between all the cups, the CL, the EPL, the int'l friendlies, African Cup, Euro, etc, etc? (seriously, im asking cuz i dont know....)

i think a winter break is a good idea, it gives the players a well needed break to spend time with there family and in the long term might even help prevent injurys. and besides its not likes it permenent, if it doesn't work then scrap the idea.

will this be a devious way of reducing the size of the premier league . cut the size of the league so that the break can be fitted in to the season and then not have to start the season earlier or finnish later . im only wondering about this as there was talk about reducing the size of the league a few seasons back.
