This is arguably the most difficult fixture in the league atm so we have to be at our very best. But they're essentially beatable. We're not the same team they slapped 3-0 at the backend of last season. We've taken giant strides since then. Thankfully, this fixture is at home.

Newcastle are a good team but with all due respect, were levels above them.

Their tactics have always been to suck teams in, force them to make mistakes am and then break break forward with pace. But we're a very technically secure team. I back us not to lose possession in dangerous areas tbh.

I've had some time to think about it, and I realised, We're back.

Sides high in the division have to come to The Carpet and defend very deep against us - legitimately when was the last time this was the case? Last 10 or so years any top side could come and have a go and we'd probably capitulate.

We're a top side ourselves now and everyone knows it, other good sides are now playing like they fear us. Its great to see.
And this team is still so damn young.

If we can keep them together for 2 or 3 more years, would be crazy.

Looks worse from this angle. Arm moving toward the ball.

I don't think it's a handball. His left arm is moving but in natural position and wouldn't call it extending. If the ball touches his right arm then it would have been called a handball because his right arm was extending moving away from his body.

My only complain about all of these handball rule is that the handball rule for defensive scenario is different to offensive scenario.

Yeah and that's why I said at the time there were two pens not given. That fact that the ****** want to be know as "Bobby" show what a cringey **** he is .

Could have been a handball or not a handball - VAR wouldn't have overruled it either way. Its one of those uncertain ones.

The shirt pull in the box on the other hand should have been called a penalty.
I am actually ok with the shirt pull not being a penalty if the refs/VAR were consistent; but you can see in the future Manc City getting a penalty for a far more subtle pull or us giving one away with far less contact. I think a lot of the better refs would have given it, this guy wasnt good.

Newcastle aren't so far along as people may think. They're specialising in a style of football similar to maximise their output, like Brentford are doing. They are playing a physical style of football that involves long ball, winning duels in midfield then laying it off to creative players (Bruno and Almiron) to do their thing. It's not a style that can be easily adapted to bigger name players. Without Longstaff and Joelinton they lose that aerial presence in midfield and it would negate their tactics.
It's very effective at the moment, sure.
Have to say, Botman looks an excellent defender.

Think someone mentioned it in the match thread about Newcastle being seen as the underdog when playing against us so got a load of beneficial decisions. Its funny how we were never seen as underdogs, but I guess when youve a former ref calling Martinelli petulant it shows what they think of us.

Maybe, but they work very well as a team, which means a lot, and can defend.

They have also missed Isak for a long time, he looked very good before his injury. Same with ASM. These are huge misses, and still they're 3rd.

I'll say that they are where we were 2 years ago. And they've got Isak who's just newly arrived, and been missing most of the time. They'll go up a level next year, even without any investment.

I mean, they're backed by Saudi who certainly have the deep pockets necessary to bankroll them to wherever they want to go, but ironically they're proving that you don't need to spend a crazy amount of money to be competitive.

I always liked Howe, and would've loved to see Arsenal take a chance on him.
