This is really massive. A win is a must imo. These sort of games, performance usually matters. It's the results that matter.

Arteta will have to learn from his mistakes at Old Trafford. We know the sort of threat Sp**s carry. Their midfield is dogshit. They have Royal, Sanchez, Dier and Sessengnon in their back five.

They'll put 10 men behind the ball and wait for a chink to appear in our amour and they'll exploit it ruthlessly and Son has just come back to form right in time for the derby.

We should have all our players back for this (save for Elneny) barring an injuries in the international break.

What I take from this is that once again, Lokonga’s positioning and off the ball movement leaves a lot to be desired. Partey must not get injured. Lokonga is miles behind in development as a 6. It showed against Utd and it showed against Aston Villa (even though we won).

Remember TP5 himself wasnt good enough for the six position when he first came in. Remember how we were debating whether he was a failed transfer?

I do agree that Lokonga is still off from a positional and movement standpoint. But I am willing to give him time to develop in this role because our six position is a very, very busy one, and it requires maximum concentration for practically the entire game. I have a feeling we are training him in the six role and he will get up to speed, just like Partey did.

For now though, you are correct. We cannot afford to lose TP5, especially in games where our opponent is closer to us in quality.

Definitive evidence for anyone wanting to debate if the challenge on Martinelli was a red or not.

Take a look at Conte's reaction (4:53 minutes). If he doesn't know what a bad tackle looks like, I don't know who would

Correct! It is clearly a foul you can and probably should give a red for. The ball wasn't even close. He just raked his studs along Martinelli's lower leg, the ankle buckled and thankfully there wasn't enough leverage and force in it to really hurt him badly. If it had at least been an honest attempt at the ball, which it wasn't. All he could hope to hit was Martinelli's leg, nothing else was even close.

I really like the bench cam YT videos. My favourite is AirPod Albert! His reactions at goals is almost always the same. Quick celebration and then up to Arteta to talk all the while Arteta paces around. Check the first and third goal.

He really is the ultimate professional. Show enough emotion so that people don't question whether you're a cyborg or not & then immediately in Tets ear about the importance of maintaining formation

The only other thing I wish the bench cam (which I also love) would have picked up was Ben White winding up the Sp**s fans by channeling his inner Walcott & reminding them of the score as they hurled abuse at him as he walked by

Of course players exaggarate a bit, but I don't think you understand how much this kind of tackle hurts to an unprotected area.

And it was a clear red, every day, it was so hard tackle above the ankle.

"Despite protests by some of the Tottenham players, referee specialist Peter Walton explained on BT Sport why a red card was handed to the full-back.

Walton said: “I don’t think Tottenham or Emerson Royal will have any complaints about this tackle at all. The challenge completely out of context, the actual challenge itself going down the side of the shin - with force - and that’s the main thing.

"Force equals a sending-off offence. It was serious foul play, Anthony Taylor took his time because I don’t think he realised what happened straight in front of him, he’s looked at it and it’s a red card offence."

Well for me it was a clear red. First of all, Martinelli might have exaggerated but there is absolutely no way for us to know exactly how painful it was and thus we are speculating either way. How painful this is depends on how much of Emerson`s weight went into this which is almost impossible to determine.

I think it was a red simply because it was a high challenge he was not in control though. If these kind of challenges are allowed in the game, we will see many "leg breakers". The fact that this particular tackle ended up being a challenge with not much weight on it was lucky for us.
This was similar to Ramsdale`s challenge last year against West Ham which should have been red for him as well from that perspective( No control and high challenge).

Also what happened to the impression I have had, that when you use much force and hit with spikes above the ankle, it's always a red? Especially when you're nowhere near the ball. Remember the Xhaka red from last season where he barely touched the City player?

Like you say, these have to be reds, because otherwise players do this for fun if they're losing at the end of the game.

Lol playing football is exactly how you know that most “injured” players are exaggerating. Studs hurt, and the natural reaction when you get some studs is to grimace and hobble around, you don’t lie down and roll around unless you’re seriously injured.

This is something everyone knows and just don’t talk about.
Yes, just red card players if they break the others leg. Sadly Martinelli didn't get a broken leg to please you. Now can you go to cry about it at Sp**s forum and leave AM?

Have you been watching any football the last 30+ years? They all roll around and scream like they have been shot at any contact. It has been like this for decades. You might not like it, I don't, but that is how things are so not sure why Martinelli should all of a sudden act differently. And to be fair Martinelli really does act like he has been shot every time.

You’ve not only failed to understand the point, but you’ve become unpleasant. A classic AM one-two.

Emerson’s was a red. He was nowhere near the ball and caught Martinelli high up with studs.
add to that the context that it had no tactical purpose whatsoever (Martinelli was literally running back to his own goal) and the picture of it being a cynical and unnecessary act that could have resulted in something more serious should be a no-brainer.

For what it's worth we should sell any serious contact to the ref even more. We're a technical side and we're bound to be on a receiving end of similar tackles. Few reds here and there and butchers will think twice before fouling and managers will stop encouraging this kind of stuff.

There was a situation on Saturday when Partey was clearly kicked 20 yards from the goal but he got up and subsequently lost the ball allowing Sp**s to counter. We would have a dangerous free-kick but we could have conceded instead. I'm all against flopping but when you're kicked you need to use it to your favour.

Tbf Martinelli has had a bit of the Ospinas about him for a while. Remember he was shedding actual tears after pulling up during the warm up of an FA Cup tie against Newcastle, before starting the game as normal?

Emerson’s card looked soft due to Martinelli basically going at walking pace. If a player gets a challenge that wrong at that speed it’s cynical and you know exactly what you‘re doing.

He likely felt with Martinelli being in his own half it was a safe yellow. Good on the ref for not being fooled and VAR backing him up.
