This is really massive. A win is a must imo. These sort of games, performance usually matters. It's the results that matter.

Arteta will have to learn from his mistakes at Old Trafford. We know the sort of threat Sp**s carry. Their midfield is dogshit. They have Royal, Sanchez, Dier and Sessengnon in their back five.

They'll put 10 men behind the ball and wait for a chink to appear in our amour and they'll exploit it ruthlessly and Son has just come back to form right in time for the derby.

We should have all our players back for this (save for Elneny) barring an injuries in the international break.

I think it will be the same lineup vs Brentford tbh.

For what it's worth we should sell any serious contact to the ref even more. We're a technical side and we're bound to be on a receiving end of similar tackles. Few reds here and there and butchers will think twice before fouling and managers will stop encouraging this kind of stuff.

There was a situation on Saturday when Partey was clearly kicked 20 yards from the goal but he got up and subsequently lost the ball allowing Sp**s to counter. We would have a dangerous free-kick but we could have conceded instead. I'm all against flopping but when you're kicked you need to use it to your favour.
Jesus gets kicked off the pitch every game and it goes unpunished.

Interesting discussion this one, much like the argument made with our team vs the Emirates teams.

I think the invincibles had the quality and versatility to adapt their game to today's standards. Wenger also has the intelligence to quickly adapt as well. Once up to speed I think it would be a shootout between 22/23 City and 03/04 Arsenal for the title, and it would be close I think.
Thr Invincibles had 12 draws iirc. They put their feet up and Wenger had to badger them to make history even though the tile was won. Turn even half of those draws in to wins and they break 100 points easily.

Even Drogba said that sometimes you need to exaggerate to get the decision! There was sideways movement when contact was made and I'm just glad Martinelli wasn't hurt. We're not a dirty side and we're the most fouled. It's about time the refs protected us and we must "help" them to do so.

Be real, even our invincibles wouldn’t win the league if they had to compete against this Man City side.

Invincibles only got 90 points. Man City make it so you have to get 100 points or more to win the league.
It would probably come down to the head to head matchups because nobody in this league is stopping Henry. City struggle against teams like the Spuds who can sit deep and then hit you quickly on the counter. The Invincibles are the best counter attacking team in the history of the Premier League. They could absolutely win the league against this City.

It doesn’t come down to head to head it comes down to results against everybody else, and our invincibles got 12 draws. By the way they didn’t manage to beat Utd in that season, we drew with them both times. City’s style is more capable of getting results against lesser sides than counterattacking styles.
The invincibles’ 90 points would not have won the league in 5 of the last 6 seasons.

Don't think anyone should have a problem with the way they play, it's the best way for Sp**s to try and win games imo.

Having Kane and Son in their prime up top, makes people kinda assume they have better players than they do, the rest of their team is quite average.

None of the their CBs are any good at defending space, so a low block is essential...none of their fullbacks can actually play fullback, so a back 5 is a must too...they have no creative midfielders at all in their team (or anyone who can play as a proper game controlling 10) so possession football is out of the question.

Direct counters to their front 3 is all they can really do, tbh...that 15 minutes before halftime, they were very dangerous.

Shows how well we did to deal with that though, thought this was a deserved win and great performance...we needed it mentally too.

Anyone who thinks our 2004 vintage couldn't match this City team, is a damn communist!

That squad had everything you could want in a football team, also did it with teams allowed to kick the **** out of us and refs openly against us ("luxuries" the oil ****s definitely don't get)

Put that team in this less physical league, we would easily be getting 100 points too...not that points really matter, tbh.

@dashsnow17 Here you go, another ex-EPL-referee from 2001-2015, Chris Foy says it's definitely a red card, and dangerous play.

There's some nice praisal of Arteta in here from ex-Sp**s player Tim Sherwood, and he also thinks Arsenal are currently 2nd best team in EPL. Seems much more sensible than I remembered him being.

Most people remember him coaching Sp*rs for a stint.

Also I think he's a Gooner just like Darren Bent.

He played 93 games for Tottenham and managed them like you say.

Would be weird if he was a Gooner, but I googled it an apparently he supported Arsenal as a child. Wow.

Okay so he is this Doherty type, not good enough for Arsenal, but loves Arsenal.

Even Bobby Pires, who was our "soft fairy" of the era, was 6'1" and pretty strong!

You just have to look at how he regularly shrugged off challenges from opponents who were known for their aggressive style & tough tackling.

He was targeted because, in a team of tough bastards, he looked soft. He was anything but.
