We did create enough to deserve a win but didn't create enough to guarantee a win. Pool and chelsea miss more opportunities than us on a weekly basis but their chance generation pipeline is so much greater. The fact we can generally list the number of big misses in games we drop points to 1-2, says its all.
That’s the flaw with Artetas thinking and his fan base. They look at each game individually and think as long as you create more chances you win every game. They don’t seem to get the more margin you give yourself the more likely you are to win more games. Last season was in many ways freak season in terms of how lucky we were with injuries and how many tight games tilted our ways. But when you write down what we trying to do, it becomes clear it’s next to impossible win a league with this

4 CBs in the back 4
2 of Partey/Rice, Merino and Jorginho
2 of Havertz, Martinelli and Trossatd starting
Ode and Saka expect to carry the attack

There’s simply not enough talent and firepower.

Another problem is both Chelsea and Liverpool have hired tactically astute managers now. The advantage Arteta had tactically is gone. Now over a season it’s gonna come down to quality of the player. We just gotta increase the technical level of the players we buying. Imagine Ødegaard miss a month. We will be truly done as we will struggle to create chances

Sure, fulham only had one chance. But it was a great chance which their striker woud've been dissapointed to miss. I dont think our striker would've scored it to be honest and thats part of our problem. I dont think we had as good a chance as that all game from open play anyway. Fulham wouldn't have felt too hard done by if we had managed to get all 3 points as they offered nothing else in an attacking sense. However, i think it's fair to say they deserved a point for opening us up the way they did, being clinical and defending well.

I had no issues with the initial line up. But with the way the game transpired, one of the changes arteta should've made was to bring on myles for partey and move timber to right back to give us more natural width on both sides. Sometimes he has to be braver.

It's interesting that pep has pretty much given up on the title but we still see ourselves as being on the hunt...

Can we move on from these constantly injured players on defense. Calafiori, Zinchenco and Tomiyasu are always out. Kiwior is huge liability as well when on the field.

It is not easy being an Arteta LB. They all get injured. Tierney, Timber, Zinny, Calafiori, Tomi.

It is a cursed position. Same with the 8, but for different reasons.

Now that curse has gone to the LW position and is suffering.

Arteta's scheme is just too 'conservative'. Everything goes to the 'right'.

Why can't Arteta tend to put faith into these young players, he's/we've got MLS who he's trained to be a LB, if he doesn't want to give 1 chance to Tierney whats the point of keeping him, these young kids will have to make debuts eventually. Why not try MLS at LB then keep Timber on the right & we would have been able to keep Partey in his preferred position centrally. It just doesn't work out with Partey out of position at RB.

🤔It was actually I think classed as a 0.04 chance according to XG so that means 96 times out of 100 it's not expected to be a goal.

It was placed perfectly at pace just out of rayas reach so credit to the striker but more often than not it doesn't hit the net.

To me ngl it looked higher than a 0.04 chance but I certainly wasn't expecting him to score.

TPs missed header for us was a way bigger chance.

You make a fair point but let's be honest MLS is still very young & we have seen him get caught out at LB.

Timber is very switched on & reliable defensively but may have been up the pitch.

KT has not kicked a ball for us in a very long time. He is still here because he was injured so nobody would take him on loan in Sept.

Looking back at it, it wasn't an easy chance to take with saliba closing him down. It wasn't a bad angle though to just put his laces through it and he got the timing and technique spot on. I guess a good chance depends on the player it falls to. It's not suprising if a capable striker scores that goal. Havertz however..

Did you guys rewatch Partey free header? 🤣 Nah man this one even worse than Martinelli guy just put so far wide from 2 yards.

Have we all collectively forgotten that ESR was clean through for 2-0 and deliberately miscontrolled the ball. My man didn’t even disguise it :)

Gunner for life.

I don’t understand why he needs to invert both fullbacks, especially when Jorginho is already playing the distributing DM role, throw in Rice and we’re essentially playing with four defensive midfielders.
Are we that bad at progressing the ball?
This also leaves huge spaces down the sides of our two centre backs, which is where their goal came from, if we had just inverted one of them Kiwior (or Timber) would have been positioned wider on the left of a three and that gets avoided.
This was made worse by the fact Trossard kept coming infield to get the ball leaving literally nobody on the left hand side of the pitch, Fulham shifted everybody over leaving us half of a, very small pitch as it is, to break down a packed defence.
It was like one of those snooker tables you get as a kid where all the balls tilt over to one side, needed someone to put some Shoot annuals under the right hand side of Craven Cottage.

I am super lenient on headers because they are much more random than people make out, but that one was particularly bad

Even a Saliba type bum nudge would have done the trick. Saka showed how it was done but unfortunately, ruled out.

Great chance? The xG on that chance was 0.04

We could have run that back another 10 times and Jiminez likely would have missed every time. It was an incredible finish.

Yeah headers under pressure is not easy but Partey one was completely free he just miscalculated his jump

Arteta is such a coward. 1-1 is no good to us, why did Ødegaard have to come off for Nwaneri to come on? Why couldn't we have both in centre mid?

Why diid Kai have to come off for Jesus to come on? Why didn't we sacrifice on the the back four?

Would be a treat if home fans of opposing teams had this banner up for the remainder of the season at all away grounds we visit.

I understand I was rewatching highlight at my bed and just got angry again.

I bet Gabriel was watching this and raging as well

These two posts are symptomatic of where we are as a club. People are enraged we miss chances generated from free kicks as opposed to open-play ones because the former are our ONLY viable scoring chances.

Until such time, neither the opposing teams nor the media will take us as anything more than a hilarious sideshow lead by a pantomime tw*t whose touch-line petulance and cowardly tactics are slowly eroding the fabric of this once-great club!!
