I hope Arteta don’t fall in love with this defensive approach and given up possession. I understand yesterday we had no choice as we had no legs in midfield. But our fans are now going over the top with mourinho tactics

Adam Cleary isn’t an Arsenal fan…

Your point stands anyway though tbf, I do find it weird how much we’re celebrating the approach after all the crap we gave Mourinhos Chelsea for being boring.

It needed to be done and we did it, but I do hope we move on quickly. Maybe after the next league game though 👀

Yeah its not complete Mourinho/Simeone tactics. You could see how we were using our positioning and pressing to limit Sp**s' ability to combine quickly with short passes.

Mourinho tactics is remaining compact and low, parking the bus as was associated with him later on. What we did to Sp**s was block them higher up, and also drag Solanke and Son deeper as well.

The fact that we could do this with Jorginho joining in to press Maddison so high is testament to how good our structure is out of possesion. Its absolutely elite to carry two old men like that in midfield.

Can you imagine what we'll also do once our main midfield is back and have built cohesion?

This was top drawer tactics from Arteta against Sp**s. Ange was exposed here.

I don't know what's worse lately, this Mourinho approach or his usual possession snoozeball

If you think that was a Mourinho approach, then you dont understand football details. Which is understandable, it requires you to think a bit more and that's not fun when you just want to enjoy the game.

I think stick to watching Sp**s, its entertaining but basic football which you can comprehend. Just be prepared for the inconsistency that comes with it.

It’s the reason why I said Skelly should play despite his age. As smart as Jorginho is he is physically done at this level and has zero legs. Sp**s had no midfield and played with 5 attackers as they had zero respect for the midfield they expected to field. With Jorginho and Partey going next summer, I think it would be shame if we don’t have better idea of skelly

Ange is too focused on his team and their strengths to want to adapt tactically to the opposition. You are right in that he expected to see TP and Jorginho centrally, and thus went for more attack minded, physical players (Bentancur and Kulusevski) to man mark our double pivot and look to force high turnovers.

That Solanke chance when White's pass inside was intercepted by Son, was a big aspect of his game plan. They wanted to use their high block and high press to force turnovers and bully TP and Jorgi centrally.

It seems crazy to me that he didnt anticipate, Arteta looking to force them back by instructing us to go long and pressing them high instead.

Simple adaptation, but it really disrupted them and what they wanted to do.

Guy is telling me I don't understand football when I litteraly had to do, what Arteta's done, this weekend haha. This was Mourinho-esque football. Close all the dangerous lane and let them play to our strengths. Only thing difference is that we did press until they passed a certain zone, wow we are so exciting!

True. I still feel for us to become truly elite team we have to become better on the ball. I still think our ball ability in midfield is not great

why are you on an arsenal forum if you support Sp**s? lol
You joined here 1 week ago no way you're telling me I'm a Sp**s fan lol. I slowly feel Arteta's game is boring, is it crazy that I think like that or does that make me a Sp**s fan? Even 2 seasons ago we played way more energetic and attacking than now.

Mourinho teams dont press bro, they sit deep, close down lanes and counter attack. If you want to equate Arteta's football against Sp**s, then look at Conte and Simeone.

And yes, you dont understand football at that stepped up level. And that's ok, football shouldnt be science it should be enjoyable. That's essentially what Ange stands for.

we changed pur tactical approach for one game to suit the opposition with key players missing, i don't think it matters how we play in september, if we were playing like this against lesser opposition further down the line i'd be more concerned but idk i'm gassed we got the win against the odds really.

Ah yeah Partey didn't get run off against Villa right. It's the voices in my head that are telling this to me it truly didn't happen lmfao.
Oh deflecting back to a previous game now, which we (Arsenal) also won and he scored. You probably wet the bed for that one too I assume? No doubt you are embarrassed and I understand that, but give it a rest ffs.

I think what Arteta did yesterday was superb btw. Don't get me wrong, he played with what he had and done it optimally. It's just not a great watch but it was needed. This what we saw yesterday is not my worry, my worry is we looked boring the games before.(was same last season earlier). I don't like watching this and it's a snoozefest.

What else should I refer to when I say how it is BEFORE the Tottenham game? Partey isn't in form this season.
Jorginho yesterday was superb in his organisation however you play this man in an attacking game we're going to have problems. He can't run or defend physically. We need Rice.

I'm a defender mate and I still play football. It's crazy when I say my team (almost) done the same strategy as Arteta this weekend but you say I don't understand. Please -esque means not the same you know that right ;)

FFS, you're complaining that it's a snooze fest? 🤔

So you'd rather we shipped more goals so that you are entertained?🤔
