Raheem Sterling: Shaken, Not Sterred

Agree with the others, after being used to a left footed wide man on the right in Saka it just looks a bit ill fitting now to see first Nelson and now Sterling as right footers on the right.

He would be better on the left, but he does a job on the right in that he does ok, and more importantly allows us to rest Saka.

I backed the loan for that reason, in that having someone is better than having nothing, but long term we need that left footed there, or at least someone thats more 2 footed than what we've used before like someone like Semenyo?

In saying all this, I'd probably Nwaneri get the extra minutes there. Surely he can play off the right in a similar way that Bernardo Silva does for City?

Where was he today? He could have done a great job on the left against Newcastle's deep back line. He played really well in midweek and looks to be getting fitter.

I expect a lot more from Sterling, (NW10 bias) it's a real shame he's letting his career drift like this - squad player for basically 4 straight seasons?

Think he'll contribute at some big moments for us this season, but it's sad seeing him like this.

Arteta will need to use him more if LW he better option than G.Jesus to bring from bench. The guy can offer us something close to Saka even his final action are frustrating

Nkunku would cook here though. He's actually quality when fit.

Trying to figure out if we are better off financially with Nelson on loan and Sterling here. I know he’s on significantly more money even when Chelsea pay half of his wage. But Fulham must have given us some loan fee? We probably pay 160k a week which is 80k more than Nelson hmm. It’s close

Again this signing proven again edu just failed to sign a winger winger so he panicked and signed this guy.

Really this last transfer window just a big failure to take next step. Mikel not even using him when we chasing a game and Mikel do know sterling very well

Can't play against Chelsea, won't be selected for England. Match sharpness must be on the floor. His only hope is the cup game Vs Palace

Why are people on blaming Edu for the Sterling signing? Who has a history with Sterling? Who has a habit of bringing players he has worked with before? I'll give you a clue, it ain't Edu.

Edu already told us this when he said publicly that Sterling wasn't on his radar as a signing until it happened so Edu failed to bring signings in that Arteta wanted and in a last ditch effort Arteta asked him to look into a Sterling loan.

It was a last minute correction because of the Nelson deal, at the time we couldn't do better and I was happy we got another man in.

That being said, Martinelli has been out of form for very long and Trossard isn't great as a starter on the wing. This has been the case for a long time now, we are lacking a proper LW. You can point at Edu and Arteta for lack of addressing that.

We were looking for winger all summer and Nelson was available to leave edu failed to sort that quick sterling was available all summer could've signed much earlier if we wanted to.

Many wingers were available in the summer, but we wasted times, finally we only just loaned out Nelson and got Sterling. and Arteta doesn't want to use Sterling. Its not the same case like Trossard (alternative of Mudryk)

Yes sterling is just being like Nelson in cup games and some minutes in PL really not upgraded that position but still with how Martinelli going I hope sterling can be used as LW

It’s the way the deal happened. It was clearly opportunistic at the last minute- whether it ended up being Arteta or Edu (I’m pretty sure it was both) it clearly wasn’t a planned thing.

In general I don’t see how anyone thinks an opportunistic deal completely bypasses the DOF and is manager driven. It doesn’t work that way.

It wasn't planned we all knew our targets for long time since edu and Arteta took over Arteta know sterling so he convinced him to join.

Arsenal Quotes

I was receiving offers from many other clubs and declining them all, even the most tempting ones. Juventus, Real Madrid, PSG contacted me, Bayern, France, England...I am happy to have been able to say no to more glory, more money, and to have been guided only by the idea of loyally serving the club. I had knitted myself a soul in Red and White.
