Raheem Sterling: Shaken, Not Sterred

Macho

Thinks he's better than Havertz.

Country: England

He literally does control who comes on or not?

I hear him about Sterling smiling as at least he's training with the team and in contention which he would not be at Chelsea. Sometimes being included can be enough.

The lack of control thing is weird, I'd need the whole convo to get the correct context

No real complaints from me anyways, Martinelli is our player and playing him into form/developing him is the priority. Trossard has done enough to be picked ahead of him. Saka is one of the best wingers in world football, I guess that might be what Arteta is alluding to.

If Mikel invested half the energy he used to make Havertz work on Sterling, my man will be cooking rn.

Kai was allowed to make mistakes. Arteta treated him like wenger would an academy grad. But Sterling is just cast aside cos he doesn't sprint the full length of the pitch to win tackles at LB.

Nah I don’t know, go watch Sterling last year, he was horrid.

He’s on loan, so it’s really not that deep for me.

Kai is our player, Sterling is a Chelsea player. That's really all there is to it.

If he was brought in by Arteta, regardless of whether it was a loan or not, Arteta wouod found a way to make it work. Even if it was a permanent signing, Arteta would still have found a way bury him. It's a pattern that we've seen for a long time. He only uses "his" players players. There are plenty of examples of players who were binned because they weren't blessed by him.

I don’t agree with this sentiment in regards to Sterling, there are much more cut and dry examples of it, but with Sterling I’m not so sure. Arteta brought him in. He’s technically ‘his’ player but he’s on loan not a permanent solution.

I think it would be pretty pointless for a manager to go out their way to get a 29 year old loanee up to speed with lots of minutes if there’s no guarantee he will come good, considering he has other players there who are up to speed with the way we play. I don’t think we even have the time for it in a title race.

With Sterling you expect him to start staking his claim naturally due to his experience. It could easily still happen later in the season anyway.

We’re running relay right now and he needs to catch up to the running start to get the baton. That’s the way I see it and that the way I’ve always seen this loan.

Koscielny was a top defender on his day as well but yeah the rest is revisionism, that defence was decent but levels below what we have now even.

I don’t agree with your assessment of levels above. The defense with Kos, Vermalin and Sagna is arguably on par with our current defense talent wise.

Have you considered the possibility that the modern attacks are just plainly worse?

There are very few dynamic players in the attacking sense in the league anymore. Those defenders were defending against higher quality attacking players. Modern defenders barely have to worry about forwards making runs. Different game to a large degree.

That being said. We get did get some poor defensive players under wenger, Mustafi is a prime example of that.

He’s doing that thing where he’s not being genuine( for whatever reason) so starts saying weird things.

Straight out of the Pep playbook, there's times where we simply just have to look at Mik's actions and not his words.
