Raheem Sterling: Shaken, Not Sterred

If he was brought in by Arteta, regardless of whether it was a loan or not, Arteta wouod found a way to make it work. Even if it was a permanent signing, Arteta would still have found a way bury him. It's a pattern that we've seen for a long time. He only uses "his" players players. There are plenty of examples of players who were binned because they weren't blessed by him.
Those players were binned because they weren’t good enough. Of all the players who were dumped by Arteta how many of them have gone on to have better careers elsewhere? Guendouzi and Willock were hailed as these huge talents that Arteta couldn’t manage but what have they done to justify the hype since leaving?

Not hugely impressed so far but get the impression that he’s trying too hard to get a goal. Think once he gets one he’ll look better but obviously, the longer time goes on, the less it benefits us for him to regain form since he’ll be a Chelsea player at the end of the season. I do however, think that he will have one massive moment for us this season. Would like to see more of him on the left, alongside Saka

But Sterling is just cast aside cos he doesn't sprint the full length of the pitch to win tackles at LB.

You say that like as if it's an irrelevant trait to have. It's exactly Trossard's failure to do that yesterday which cost us the first goal. It was exactly Martinelli's failure to do that last season in the Allianz Arena that dumped us out of the CL.

The primary yardstick for judging attackers shouldn't be their defensive ability. We've been spoiled by Saka. Not every winger is going to be like him. Mbappe, Vini, Salah etc have never been judged on their ability to track back.

It's not an either or case of defence or attack. You want the whole package. You want someone who is diligent off the ball in the defensive duties, whilst offering all the necessary offensive qualities.

The same way full backs are judged on both their defensive and attacking duties, wingers are judged on both their attacking and defensive qualities.

This is not my opinion, ask football managers. Here is Mbappe getting hammered for not defending -

On this team, you have to defend.

for me situation is simple: Sterling give a big minus in defence and don't seem till now too much interest to improve situation. When we attack , at the moment , could be eventually slightly better then Martinelli or Troussard but not enough for justify what we lose playing him on defense side.

Better than Martinelli and Trossard in attack? What has he shown that makes you think that?

The best thing about this deal so far is that it allowed Reiss to go to Fulham & he is doing ok so we may get a nice fee for him in the summer 🤞

Let's hope he can be useful with the intense amount of games we have over the next few weeks

I do think Raz could still produce some moments of quality but just not sure that nowadays he is up to the demands of a top team.

Salah was still very decent at tracking back when he was Raheems age.

Left City for more game time, (even though he was still used regularly) but has been happy enough to let his career drift for 3 seasons?

Part time footballer, he just wanted to be closer to Brent.

Arteta just got him for these cup games and save edu face because he couldn't sign any winger that Mikel wanted for 3 years.

I actually thought we gonna use him more but the only winner from this is Nelson who is regular at Fulham

What was the whole point of this loan signing? He wasn’t even really given a fair chances given both Trossard and Martinelli are smelling up the place.

It’s personal. What are the chances of an attacker getting on the bench as much as he is and not getting a minute while the attack is struggling. He’s really making a point of not using him

He must be that useless he can't get a game ahead of Trossard and Martinelli.

Arteta need to try it already in depressing situation
